When to Search

With more than 60,000 students attending OSU, there's an extremely large population of college age renters. Both schools begin in late August, so savvy renters will begin their search in the late spring or early summer.

Transportation

The University District is great for bike riders with plenty of dedicated lanes and bike-friendly roads. Getting around outside of the campus is pretty simple with a road system that conforms to a grid system and solid transportation options provided by Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA).

Where to play

There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy all four seasons, including hiking, cycling and river activities like kayaking. The densely populated University District is conveniently located near N. High Street, which features dozens of dining and nightlife options.

Attractions

The city has quite a few attractions to offer, but there are some hot spots that locals continue to visit again and again. You can explore the Franklin Park Conservatory, which offers permanent indoor and outdoor exhibits, as well as temporary artists exhibits throughout the year. The lovely butterfly sanctuary is one of its more distinctive features. Want to see a more lively side of Mother Nature? Head to the Zoo and Aquarium, which boasts over 700 different species and has garnered international acclaim for its interactive exhibits and conservation efforts. Craving some adventure? Take a two-hour zipline tour of the treetops in the northern part of the city. you'll get beautiful views and a few thrills all rolled into one!

Dining

Eating your way through Arch City is a unique experience that few get to enjoy. For one, it's known for the many breakfast delights. Savory delights can be had at Hang Over Easy and Northstar Café. For a sweet breakfast, snatch up some Nutella Pancake Balls at Katalina’s Café Corner. If you're searching for something a little more adventurous, head over to the beloved North Market Farmer’s Market. This huge indoor market offers dozens of stands featuring local farmers, butchers, and chefs. Delicious desserts can be found just about everyone, ranging from macaroons to traditional hand churned ice cream. For a late dinner, consider grabbing some delectable Korean barbeque at San-Sun. More interested in drunk eats? Grab a greasy slice of pizza at The Rossi before 1am or devour a gyro burger (yes, you are seeing those two words right next to each other) at Easy Street Café.

Bars

When it comes to libations, there's a little bit of everything. If you're looking for a more grown-up atmosphere, head over to Curio for a finely crafted cocktail made by bartenders who take liquor seriously. Take a look at the quirky Asian lounge Double Happiness if you want a unique drink – like their specially infused soju – with a little side of atmosphere. Not surprisingly, there are plenty of college drive bars in the area where you can enjoy a cheap drink served with a side of Buckeye pride. Great times and awesome happy hours can be had at the Ugly Tuna, Four Kegs, and Red Zone.

Culture

Known for being a cultural center in Ohio and beyond. The city is home to a number of intriguing museums, including the Museum of Art and the Wexner Center for the Arts, each featuring some outstanding art collections in both the European and American traditions. If you're hoping to see the latest band touring through town, look to the Nationwide Arena – a favorite venue for live music acts. Lovers of live theater can explore the many performing arts institutions that add flavor to the city, including the Opera, BalletMet, and Shadowbox Live.

Events

With countless events throughout the year, the community turnout is always through the roof. Why? Because this city rarely hosts a mediocre event! The Ohio State Fair attracts people from across the state with its amusement park rides, classic fair food, and live music. Foodies can revel in the Food Truck Festival, where you can spend a delicious weekend sampling over 40 food trucks to relaxing tunes performed by local bands. More interested in beer? Enjoy Oktoberfest in late September, when the Ohio Expo Center becomes a classic German beer hall filled with laughter and overflowing steins! Basically if you find yourself bored on the weekend, particularly during warmer months, then you're not trying hard enough.

Shopping

You should have no problem finding fantastic shopping destinations in Arch City. In fact, it's has been ranked in the top 5 best cities to shop in by Forbes. If you love the mall shopping experience, then you'll fall hard for the Easton Town Center. This huge shopping center features many national chains that range from luxury brands to moderately priced brands. Fashionistas can hit up Polaris Fashion Place, a two level mall with an outdoor shopping area that contains many different stores, including luxury chains. For access to more unique mom-and-pop shops, take a look at the Short North Arts District, which boasts many quirky shops and art galleries that are perfect for browsing or spending a few dollars.

Sports

Though the Ohio State Buckeyes are a college team, "Buckeye Fever" is highly contagious, seeping off of campus into the entire metro area. Some might say that this city loves their college team just as much (maybe even more) than some of their professional teams. After all, it's not unusual to see The Ohio Stadium completely full – even just for regular games. Of course, that doesn't mean that the city's professional teams don't get a little love. Residents also enjoy supporting the the Crew (soccer), Clippers (baseball), and Blue Jackets (ice hockey).

Outdoors

Looking for an escape from that confining city feel? Check out one of the many lush parks and have a relaxing day amongst towering trees and serene ponds. Schiller Park, nestled in German Village, boasts 23 acres of beautiful green space, as well as a lovely outdoor amphitheater that hosts free Shakespeare plays during the summer. Goodale Park is also celebrated amongst locals as the oldest park in the city. It also hosts Comfest, the largest art event in the area. If you're looking for a park with more vibrant landscaping, check out the Whetstone Park of Roses, which features flowers as rustic and graceful as its name suggests.

Columbus rent prices increased over the last month. From July to August, the city experienced a 2.16% increase for the price of a one-bedroom apartment. The rent price for a Columbus one-bedroom apartments currently stands at $1,370.0.

Rent growth in Columbus over the past year has been on the rise. When compared to major cities nearby, along with some of the most expensive cities in the country, Columbus average rent prices appear to be relatively affordable for local residents.

The price for a Columbus one-bedroom apartment remains vastly more affordable than four of the largest cities in the United States — New York City, Washington, D.C. San Francisco and Los Angeles. And pricing compares quite similarly to nearby Midwest cities.
