Schmidt Artist Lofts is managed by Dominium, a Plymouth-based property management and development company dedicated to providing exceptional rental choices and sound management. Dominium also provides affordable artist housing through the A-Mill Artist Lofts in Minneapolis and Metropolitan Artist Lofts in St. Louis, Missouri.

I love the space itself, the studios and the amenities, but I appreciate the staff more than any other thing. I've lived in apartments in Boston, New York, and L.A., and these are the most professional, down-to-earth, real people that I've had the pleasure of working with. They dedicate their efforts to making sure this wonderful space can be enjoyed by everyone.

-Maintenance was always fast to fix problems
-Location (Close to Downtown St. Paul)
CONS:
-There isn't a parking garage or covered parking. They give you one parking pass and everyone has to fight over spots. I had over $2,000 of damage done to my car because residents do not know how to properly open their doors.
-Residents (A LOT of residents were extremely rude and disrespectful to the shared spaces)
-Management (Very rude and didn't really care about your problems)
Lovely renovation, great community, wonderful art. Constant issues with poor maintenance, communication with the management, and poor construction in the lofts(cracking floors, breaking doors, leaking skylights, thin walls).

besides the lofts being way over priced and the walls being paper thin I was very dissatisfied with my experience here. They are very strict about everything. I was going out of town and they wouldn't even let a friend or family member get my mail while I was gone. They said I wasn't allowed to add my girlfriend onto the lease with me because she had an eviction notice even though I've been paying myself for over 6 months. I feel I've been told lots of misleading information. First day I came in they said a waiting list of over 500 people but they called me the next day to offer me a place. Also don't expect to get out of your lease if you have to because they make it impossible. I have the cheapest loft and to get out of it will cost me 4K. Very unhappy with my stay here. I would recommend anywhere but here.

During big events they completely ignore artist residency and block off even more parking when spots are scarce enough as it is. Not only that events like german fest you do not recieve your mail.
Walls are paper thin.
Messy unkept artist rooms people do not clean up after themselves
Nobody picks up after their dog.
Too many pretentious slob hipsters that disrespect the building and it's amenities.
3rd party god awful electric company that makes you pay a fee ontop of paying your bill.
Half the outlets do not work in your loft
Leaky roof.
No fan in the bathroom so rusty metal
LOUD and I mean LOUD ac and heat unit
Not allowed to use community rooms past 11:00

While The Schmidt Artist Lofts are beautiful apartment and have some good amenities, don't be fooled this is not a "Live/Work" artist loft by any means. There is very little, if any artistic community and building management is less than supportive. When I moved in in 2014 I was guaranteed that the units were "Sound Proof" and that there was a "Recording Studio" downstairs; neither is true, As a professional musician & audio engineer, this building is NOT suitable for any practicing/professional musicians, I received multiple complaints from the management regarding sound while working with clients in my loft and out side of the loft. The Schmidt Artist Lofts are fine but are NOT designed for musicians.

So far, I love living here. I have been visiting a good friend of mine who has lived here since the brewhouse opened in 2014. Amazing building, amazing units. I was finally able to snag a studio myself. My only gripes are no view out my window, and a post that is right smack dab in the middle of the short hallway into my living space.
Some residents are a bit callous about their neighbors. All in all, great tho.

From this brief encounter with this staff member, I highly doubt I will be handing money over any time soon for a space there.
This is an amazing community with gorgeous units and great staff! So excited to live there!
