We are looking for another person to share a large house in North Oakland on a quiet, tree-lined, residential street (Iowa St.), 0.8 miles from Pitt's Cathedral of Learning, and 1.3 miles from CMU. Rent is $650 per month (or $725 for the larger room), plus utilities. A $1300 ($1450) security deposit is required when the one-year lease is signed. Each housemate has his/her own lease. $45 for a credit check is required at the time of application. The utilities (gas, water, electric, internet) averaged over the year add about $75/mo per person.
The house features a large, beautiful deck overlooking the city and a recently remodeled custom granite kitchen with tile floor, maple cabinets and dishwasher. The 2nd and 3rd floor bathrooms were completely remodeled in 2016 and 2011, respectively. All hardwood floors have been refinished. There is free use of the washer and dryer. There is some furniture in the dining room and living room, but housemates will need to provide their own bedroom/office furniture. There is a lot of storage space in the basement and room for bike storage (but not cars) in the garage.
The landlord/owner is NOT one of those big Pgh property management companies, so you can count on quick responses to any issues that arise.
A car is not essential for this centrally located house, but if you do have one there is plenty of street parking in the quiet residential neighborhood. There is an 83 bus stop (to downtown) directly in front of the house and another stop within a five minute walk (this includes a Pitt bus to both upper and lower campuses, and the 82 via Centre Ave). Bus stops for the 71A, 71C (via Centre Ave.) and the 54 buses are within an 8-minute walk, and the busway is a 10 minute walk. The 71A, C, and 82 go to Giant Eagle (grocery store), and within a block and a half of Whole Foods (grocery). Target, Trader Joe’s, and Bakery Square are all accessible via these bus routes, as well, without having to change buses.
No smoking or pets. Housemates should be neat in common areas and willing to regularly pitch in to keep the house clean and comfortable. All housemates are currently very committed to maintaining an environment that is conducive to rest and study- this is not a party house.
