A Local Perspective

Hammond is a city of 80,000 people that is part of Metropolitan Chicago. The city is dependent on a few large employers that hire the lion's share of the locals, including School City of Hammond, and the Horseshoe Casino, which by itself employs over 2,000 people.

Hammond is home to four privately owned universities, and one state school. The provision of local education options without having to commute into the rest of Chicago is appealing to many who prefer to live directly in Hammond. Hammond also draws many people from the rest of Greater Chicagoland into its borders, primarily due to the draw of the Horseshoe Casino.
