As far as the on site management (property manager Marica & Dragan) they do a good job and try their best. That being said the building is too old to have tenants. I had a mouse last year and a number of bugs. I had to spend my time and money on disinfectant, mouse traps and bug spray. About a month ago (March 2014) the power went out in the whole building. This past weekend both elevators we're not in service and everybody had to use the service elevator which is dirty and sometimes smells from the restaurant in the building. The management company that owns this building (Holsten management) seems that they try to cut every possible corner that they can. The building is advertised as handicap accessible and the only accessible features that I've seen were a larger doorway to the bathroom and closet and grab bars in the bathroom. There is no automatic door opener to allow wheelchair-bound individuals easy access to the building. This at one time was a hotel and was converted into an apartment building at one point. There are more then 20 Apartments on each floor with a total of 12 floors including lobby. This is way too much of a workload for anyone to handle. This building should have stayed a Hotel or been turned into a museum. There are a number of families that live in the building and if you have a pet peeve with screaming children do not live here. The building itself has a very diverse population which results in very strong migraine causing cooking smells. there's a garbage shoot for the building and if there's a holiday or the trash is not picked up for more than 2 days it backs up into the shoot and smells, attracts bugs and rodents. The location of this building in proximity to the lakefront is perfect. Its about 2 blocks away. The neighborhood is changing for the better but as a snails pace. The building across the street from this one is a halfway house and you're constantly approached by homeless people. If you're curious about living here and are attracted to the building my opinion would be to not live here. The amount that they charge in rent verses the space, quality of the building, neighborhood and friendliness of the people the live here is grossly overpriced.
