Although I understand these are students apartments, I did expect to have a knowledgeable and respectful staff working in the office. When I first reached out to Hill Country Place, a staff member informed me that my choice of a two-bedroom unit with my preferred roommate was available, but when I came in person and filled out paperwork, paid non-refundable fees, and had a credit check, they tried giving me a random roommate because the two-bedroom unit I was originally going to stay in had been assigned to someone else. While they did fix the problem and I was able to get the original two-bedroom unit with my preferred roommate, it was an abundance of unnecessary stress for a living situation while I was dealing with stress from school as well. After moving in, the previous tenant who worked at the office left the unit disgusting. There was a lot of dog hair under the bed, on the bed frame (about an inch of dust and dog hair), the drawers under the bed smelled like dog as well (I had to use wipes and stick shout dryer sheets in the drawer to get rid of the smell), and the desk had grime from God knows what (my wipes turned BLACK as I was scrubbing the desk) even AFTER the room had already been supposedly cleaned. The carpet smelled good but after a week the clean smell went away and it smelled like dog pee, so at this point I was not going call in the same people who had done a bad job of cleaning the room in the first place and cleaned everything myself and still get wall plug-ins to this day to avoid any smells. The other problem I had was that when I moved in with my cat, the staff informed me that it was a ONE TIME non-refundable pet fee deposit of $500, but recently I got another a cat and was told that it was a non-refundable PER PET deposit of $500. Even though Hill Country Place prides itself on being "pet-friendly" $1,000 for two cats doesn't sound very pet-friendly to me. I feel that because the residents of Hill Country are a younger client with little experience in renting and dealing with a condescending office staff, that should be kinder given that the working staff (besides the managers) are around the same age as the residents and to the best of my understanding, also attending school, add in a lot of hidden fees and make it very expensive to get out of your lease (another $500 fee in case you were wondering) because the facility probably assumes that our parents can just pay all these fees, not taking into account the fact that a lot of students are supporting themselves financially through scholarships, finical aid, or in most cases with part-time jobs, so as I'm typing this, I realize that the facility itself isn't too "student friendly" either. The only perk of living here is the maintenance staff. They are very kind and prompt, in other apartments requests can take up to a week, but all of my maintenance requests have been completed in less than a week and when our water heater broke, someone came at 10:00 pm that very same day to fix it for us.
