Lynchburg is set against the scenic background of the Blue Ridge Mountain foothills. It sits on the James River, and is named for the man who came to the area very young in order to operate a ferry across the river. The city is a very historic site, and was very important in the formative years of the country. Thomas Jefferson even maintained a home in the area for some time.

Lynchburg currently is active in a number of industries including health care and pharmaceuticals. It is also a college town to a degree, with Liberty University being another major employer in the area. Liberty is a Christian School with more than 13,000 in-person students. It also operates a very large online school, and employs a large number of staff to manage that portion of its operations.

The Lynchburg Museum is located in an older courthouse, and showcases some important local history. The hills around the city mean that bikers and hikers have no shortage of great opportunities. For those who prefer their entertainment sitting down, the Cinemark Movies 10 shows affordable second-run movies. The Boiler Room Lounge is a popular local bar. Clubhouse Bar and Billiards is another option for those who prefer to shoot some pool while grabbing a drink.
