North Carolina Central University (NCCU) is a historically black college that is known for its majors in Law, Criminal Justice, and Business, as well as Library and Information Sciences. Many of the faculty members are known to be leaders in their fields and are enthusiastic to help students. Medium class sizes allow for active discussions that offer diverse points of view and individual attention from professors. The University is also highly commended for its affordability.
NCCU students are known for being extremely friendly and sociable. Many students go home on weekends, but there are certainly exceptions to this rule. Because NCCU is a dry campus, students must venture into Durham and other areas to party. The nightlife in this town appeals mostly to seniors, so younger undergrads must hit up Greek house parties or seek out other University’s undergrad communities. Many students choose to take the shuttle to Chapel Hill’s Franklin Street and party it up with UNC students.
The Greek Life here is relatively quiet, mostly working on fundraisers and promoting school spirit. However, they do occasionally throw parties and are welcoming to all students. Athletics are a huge part of campus life at NCCU. Athletes are highly respected by students and people love to attend their teams’ games, with basketball and football being the most popular. NCCU campus booms with activity during game days, particularly Homecoming.
