I lived here my first three years of college, under the old management and moved out due to roommate issues. Now, my boyfriend was looking for a place to live and I suggested that he move in there because I had such a wonderful experience. We went and toured and he signed a seven month lease at the end of the tour. The man helping us, Hunter, told us that there would be no fees associated with moving in as their winter special and that there would be a rent concession that would bring the rent from $1,100 down to $850.
We called back several times the week after signing the lease to figure out what date he would be able to move in and how much the rent would cost. Every time we called Hunter said that he would send my boyfriend an email and every time he forgot. Hunter let us know that we could move in the 5th and we asked to bump the move in date back to the 8th so that the prorated amount would be a bit lower. He said that would be fine. Now today (the 5th of January, the original move in date) I called for my boyfriend while he was at work to figure out how much he needed to make the check out for. When we called Hunter let us know that there were no more studio larges available (even though that is what the lease was signed for the week before), that there would be a $100 one time fee (even though the winter move in said all fees would be waived) and that the rent would not be prorated (even though he would not be moving in until the 8th of the month.)
We went to the office to speak to the manager and a worker named Bailey let us know that they do not prorate the rent, so we asked if he could just get the key today then if he was going to pay the same amount of rent no matter what. Bailey let us know that the room wouldn't even be ready until the 8th. It is absolutely absurd that he was being expected to pay for 8 days of rent (almost $400) and wouldn't even have the option to take advantage of those days. Their solution to that problem was to offer free parking, a $45 value. When we asked to speak to the manager we were told that she was in meetings but she was still able to help someone who came in with a question about rent and then was just working on her computer. She ended up letting him out of the lease, but regardless, now he is without a place to live and just a few days to figure it out.
This was the most unprofessional experience I have had with any apartment complex in my life. Under no circumstance should it take that many phone calls to get an answer from someone about rent, only to be told that there is not even a unit available, only to be told that yes there is one available but you have to pay the full amount for the month but you can't move in until 8 days later due to lack of preparation on their part.
This was an absolutely absurd experience and I hope that upper management reviews the way that they train their staff and how they communicate between their own staff and with their residents. Being told that many different "truths" about their policies over a week is just unacceptable.
