Find a Cheney Apartment

Cheney is a small city in Spokane County, Washington. Although the regular population is just over 10,000, during the school year the attendees of Eastern Washington University balloon the size of the town to closer to 18,000.

Cheney is an extremely scenic town, built on top of rolling hills and surrounded by nearby lakes and rivers. It is a Spokane bedroom community, with many people from Cheney commuting into the city for work, and many students from the city commuting out to Cheney for their education. With the bigger city only 15 miles away, Cheney provides just enough isolation to give residents a quiet, private town to call home, while still offering good access to big city amenities.

When to Search

Looking early is key when apartment hunting in Cheney. By the time winter starts to wind down, you want to be searching for an apartment, as the best time to move in will be when the graduating students vacate at the end of the winter term.

Staying in the Know

Cheney landlords get a lot of applications from students. Having proof of income or a responsible consignor can help you get an apartment. Although having a parent co-sign on an apartment might not be preferable, the truth is that many of the people that you're in competition with for the available suites will have a consignor as well, so if you don't, you could be putting yourself at a disadvantage.

Life in Cheney

Transportation

The Spokane transit authority operates busses in Cheney, but there aren't a lot of routes. The 68 Local makes a loop around the perimeter of the town, and stops at EWU. For those commuting in or out of Spokane proper, Route 66 and Rout 165 connect the small community to the big city.

Where to play

Cheney is small enough that there isn't a lot to do right in town. However, the short bus ride to Spokane gives you access to some great dining, theatres, art galleries and live music. Spokane and Cheney also love to come together to support the local sports teams like the Chiefs of the WHL.
