I applied to Unit #25 at the Foreland on 2nd St NE a little over a week ago. Understanding that the unit wouldn't be available until October 1st, I didn't want to miss out on the unit, because a friend had lived in there and raved about it, so I submitted my application anyway.
I was put in touch with Gwen Dickerson for a tour of the building, who told me she could show me similar units. She made sure to tell me each unit is unique, showed me one unit under construction, and then a small unit on the third floor, as well as walked me through the second floor where #25 is, and the lower level laundry facilities. We exited out the side door, and I asked her, because I wasn't exactly sure where we were in the building, which side of the building #25 faced, assuming that because the floor plan on the website showed the bay window that it was either the front or the side facing A St NE. She promised to get back to me, but pointed to a bay window on the side of the building and said, "I think that's it". She called me soon after to verify that she was "correct and verified it with building maintenance". I asked her to follow up with the specific floorpan anyway, because the one on the website, didn't have measurements. and I wanted to verify that the unit was in fact 425 sq ft.
The only response I got was that the only floor plan available was the false one on the website showing bay windows. I asked her if she could at least confirm the side of the building and the square footage, no response. I followed up with Carol Posey from the leasing office who told me I had until 5pm 8/17 to confirm acceptance of the unit, and I told her I was till waiting on some answers from Gwen.
I emailed Gwen again, who later called me and said, "don't you remember we walked out the side of the building and I said it was the one with the windows?" I said as long as that's correct I'm fine with the apartment, but emailed her after asking for written confirmation of what she said. No response.
It was then that I spoke with my friends who'd lived in the building, who told me unit #25 faced the back alley behind the building AND was on the opposite side of the building from A St altogether (and therefore didn't have bay windows). So Gwen didn't have have any of her information correct.
Honestly, the bay windows where what I was interested in, but not a deal breaker. Emailed both Gwen and Carole at this point on the morning of 8/17, saying I'd still sign a lease but wanted a final walkthrough of the unit, or at minimum, a floor plan and written verification of the sq ft. I got a bounce back email from Gwen saying my email had been blocked. I called Carole and was sent to voicemail and never received a response.
