Find a Troy Apartment

Troy is the absolute picture of the perfect southern town. With only 18,000 people, it is big enough to have some of the amenities that smaller towns miss out on, but not so large as to lose any of the sense of closeness that marks most small towns. Troy is a college town, and Troy University hosts nearly 7,000 students every year. The weather in town is typically moderate all year, with snow being very rare. Occasionally, a hurricane has threatened the town, but the more common weather difficulties are extreme winds.

Troy may be small, but the operations of a few big companies have kept the town citizens well employed for years now. In addition to the University, Lockheed Martin, Wal-Mart and Sikorsky Aircraft are all major employers in the area.

When to Search

There are a couple of good times to look for an apartment in Troy. If you look in December or January, you should be able to find rent prices that are slightly lower than the rest of the year. On the other hand, if you look in May or June, you're going to have your choice of the most apartments.

Staying in the Know

References are going to make all the difference in Troy. You can expect your landlords to contact each and every reference that you provide. If you don't have good references from prior apartments, use teachers or former employers. Someone who can vouch for your reliability and personality will make a good reference.

The weather here is good enough that a bicycle can actually make a fairly reliable year-round vehicle, although occasionally the city sees a little snow in the winter.

Where to play

Troy is home to a recreation center that has fantastic facilities for a city of its size, including an indoor track, pools, basketball courts and more. There are also a handful of local bars that are worth visiting. Try The Brick if you prefer a sports bar atmosphere, or the Dirty Pearl if you want a more traditional southern bar with occasional live entertainment.
