I have lived here for 5 years. Apartment is nice but a bit outdated. I have never complained and am always polite to staff...
I have lived here for 5 years. Apartment is nice but a bit outdated. I have never complained and am always polite to staff and neighbors. I have even referred friends to move in. A few weeks ago, my daughter visited me for a few hours and brought her small dog with her. A few days letter I received a letter saying I needed to pay the 400.00 non refundable pet deposit AND an additional 40.00 per month for my "new pet: I called to explain the dog was just visiting. I was informed that if the dog visits for 10 min or a few hours, it doesn't matter. I have to pay as if I own a dog! CRAZY rules. I was informed by corporate that it was at the property managers discretion, I have spoken to other managers for the same company and they said it was ridiculous! Just is so unfair that one person can make this decision.
UPDATE - it is after 5pm, and no follow up call as promised in the reply below. I also did email Customer Service as the response suggested...and no reply from them either :(
UPDATE - after speaking with management....I am told I need to pay a $400 non refundable deposit AND a $40.00 "Pet Rent" for my daughters rescue pup that visits for an afternoon.

My wife and I have been living here for about half a year now and we like it a lot. It's a convenient town...
My wife and I have been living here for about half a year now and we like it a lot. It's a convenient town that is a good distance from most things (including Dulles) that you'd want to do in NOVA without being in the middle of a city proper. It's a fairly quiet neighborhood and I have yet to have any problems with neighbors or parking.
The staff are very responsive and friendly and worked with me well every interaction I've had with them. Their office hours are a bit limited for the many people who work 9-5 Mon through Fri but I've found that most of the time an email gets the job done just fine.
Their maintenance staff is also quite responsive and helpful and I've never noticed them be messy or move anything in the apartment regardless of if I'm home or not.
It's been a great first apartment for us and as long as we live in NOVA I don't see why we wouldn't continue living here.

I really dont know where to start. I hate writing bad reviews and I waited a few months to cool off. I lived in the Abbey at South Riding for over 4 years and I did not once complain about the noise, bugs or periodic $25 blind replacements. My toilet was almost always leaking, appliances outdated and my neighbors above me never stopped running from room to room. Moving out was the best decision I made all year. I had decent interactions with some of the staff members, but I witnessed a lot of other tenants getting talked down to. Ultimately, I would not recommend any of my friends or family. It isn't worth the BS that comes with living there.

I have been living in the Devon for the past two years. Initially, I was skeptic to move to this Apt because, of all the bad reviews. The two years here have been good. Excellent location. The management is friendly, especially the lady Destiny does an excellent job, listening to all your questions and addressing them immediately. The working staff fixes the things in a very short notice. I would definitely recommend this apartment if you are looking for a peaceful living.

I am unsure of the negative reviews. I have lived at The Abbey for 2 years and I loved it! The maintenance crew responded in less than 24 hours for services and was very friendly. The grounds and the pool was a nice touch. I felt safe coming and leaving here. The front office turn-over rate was high, but majority of the front office ladies were rude! When we first were looking to move into this place we saw the google reviews were bad but we figured we'd give it a shot. Unfortunately the year that we spent here has proven all of the google reviews right. They don't give your security deposit back, and then demand you pay "back utilities". Their explanation is that "the way the quarter falls is how its determined, so its always behind". When we started paying monthly rent the utilities on the receipt were always a few months behind.. so why are we catching up something that was behind to begin with before we moved in? The office staff was always rude except for one nice lady, but unfortunately she was never there when i needed help. I do not recommend this place, please heed the warning of the other reviewers.

My advice is to look elsewhere for an apartment. We have lived here for three years out of necessity. The management of this apartment complex is lousy to say the least. They nickel and dime tenants for anything they can. For one example, we use to be able to throw our own trash out in the garbage cans, now they make you pay $40 a month to have a company do this. Forget about snow removal, have a few shovels ready to do the parking lot and sidewalks yourself with your family. Notice cockroaches in your bathroom, don't bother telling management, they really don't seem to care. Forget about seeing even a small portion of your deposit back, they keep it all and send a bill for more! Glad we are outta here!

I have lived here for over a year, on The Abbey side. I have had nothing but good interactions with the office personel and with the maintenance (the two times I've had to call them). I'm not aware of police being called "all the time". It is a very quiet, warm feeling, family oriented place to live. The apartments, in my opinion, are updated enough. All of my appliances work great, the carpet is fine, the bathrooms work perfect.
I almost didn't move here because I read such negative reviews. Everyone has their own opinion, so I am glad I visited myself and went with my gut. I just wanted to put my two cents in and give you a positive review. Thanks for making my move from down south so easy and trouble free. Keep up the good work :)

The apartments say that they are updated; they are not. I moved out a year ago and they will not give back my security deposit because they said there were utilities that needed to be paid. I said I paid everything and the girl over the phone said I did pay everything but since we charge utilities every two months that there are back charges that they don't send bills for. This is a terrible place to live. They lie, steal your money and they don't do enough background checks on their tenants because the cops were constantly called. If I could give no stars then I would. They are rude and their hours are wrong. They say they will be open on Sunday and they never are. DO NOT live here. I have told so many people not to. I loved the area so I didn't look up the reviews before I did. I wish I looked them up.
