Most students at FIT bring a vehicle to school with them (65%), even though the campus is small and walkable. This shows that the majority of off-campus students need vehicles to commute to FIT. The only exception are the students who take public transportation (SCAT’s Bus 26) to class. FIT is just a few miles from Interstate 95 to the west and US Route 192 to the north. A lot of students look towards Palm Bay for off-campus housing, as its only four miles away. Wilson Gardens and West Melbourne are two other popular local areas, and both feature short commutes to FIT’s campus. Melbourne, FIT’s home, is one of Florida’s most beautiful coastal cities. This is especially apparent when you cross over 5th Avenue to the thin strip of land sitting on the Atlantic Ocean. This is where many of beaches are, and where you can find a lot of FIT’s students on the weekends or after class on sunny weekdays. Everyone knows that Florida’s beaches are perfect for students, but Melbourne is a great city for them to explore. There are historic sites, museums, plenty of culture, and over 30 parks for exercise and recreation.
