I gave them two stars only because I am sure there are worse places in the world to live than this. However, I want to be clear that we did not enjoy our experience there.
We lived there about a year and a half and we were under 2 different managements. Both were not great. Every time I went into the office the women in there were extremely rude to me and seemed put out. Mind you 10 out of 10 times I was picking up a package I ordered and was delivered there. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Every time I called, no one answered. But they would IMMEDIATELY text me and ask me what I needed. I needed to speak to someone on the phone (hence why I called). I never remember giving them permission to text me cell phone.
We complained many, many times about the weed being smoked by our downstairs neighbors. They put a threatening letter on the doors of our building ONE time, saying to call them if we smelled it again and they would evict the people smoking. When I called they said there was nothing they could do about it. Our entire apartment smelled like weed constantly.
Upon move in I thought the apartment smelled slightly of smoke, when I brought this up they INSISTED it was because they had painted (doesn't make any sense). Once we were in the apartment, we found the source was the master bathroom. It smelled like a chain smoker smoked exclusively in this bathroom for years. We called and they said they would come and clean the vent. They did and nothing changed. The vent needed to be replaced but they refused. The entire time we lived there we had to keep that door closed.
As many others said, the trash overflows every other weekend. I'm not sure why they couldn't put another dumpster at the other exit of the complex or have the trash picked up more frequently. Seems like a simple fix. Plus there was a monthly charge for trash so they have the funds.
We lived on the top floor and still found cockroaches. You had to request for them to come out and spray, even though you may monthly for the service, they don't come unless you call.
The rent is astronomical, be sure to read the fine print. You will pay an arm and a leg and your first child to break your lease. Their "specials" are not exactly as advertised.
We paid a deposit when we moved in under the first management, when we moved out, they said they could not pay it back because they were a different company and did not have access to those funds. Even though it was clearly part of our lease agreement. That should have been hashed out with the former owners somehow, tenants shouldn't have to lose their money because ownership changed.
Overall it was really dirty. Outside the apartments, in the stairwells, on the roads, people just left their trash everywhere. People also never picked up after their dogs.
Parking was terrible, there were never places close to the door. It seemed like there were lots of extra cars that never moved.
I'm sure there were more issues that I am not thinking of over the year and a half we were there. We were counting down the days until we moved out.
This is so lengthy, not to show how many issues there were, but hopefully to show that it wasn't just one thing or occasion that made us "mad," but we are pretty reasonable people and were good tenants - this is simply not a quality apartment complex, and you will pay like it is.
Overall, if I had a friend looking for an apartment in Knoxville I would 100% steer them clear of the Metropolitan.
