My fianc and I were taken on a property tour with Catherine in the spring. We were interested in 1/1 apartments on the first-floor, but our leasing agent showed us a second-floor unit which had carpet flooring. During our tour, Catherine explained to us that it was not an option to have a washer/dryer in first floor apartments, so the office did their best to assign such units close to the laundry room. The second thing that Catherine told us was that all first-floor apartments had vinyl wood flooring, and that the reason that second-story apartments didnt was that it would creak. This was what we cared about most, as having a dog, etc., is much easier without carpet, and is what ultimately made us chose Towne Parc. Despite being told that carpet would not even be an option for 1/1 apartments on the first floor, we still indicated our desire for a vinyl-flooring apartment on our lease.
Because we were out of town till 8/13, we had hired a moving company to bring our things for us on move-in day (8/1). When we finally arrived in Gainesville, excited to see our new apartment, we found that we were not only nowhere near the laundry room, but there was nothing but carpet inside our apartment. Whats worse is the state that the carpet is in: aside from specific stains or tears, the general surface is sticky and rough.
I called the office to ask what had happened and if anything could be done (since we had not yet unpacked). Funny enough, Catherine took my call, said she didnt know who had told us that all first-floor apartments had the vinyl flooring, and that preferences were not always guaranteed. She then said that maintenance would come within the following two days to see if the rug needed to be replaced with the vinyl flooring, and if so, they would do that. This visit, of course, never happened, and if/when it does, were confident that the outcome of it will be to replace the carpet
The icing on the cake is that our apartment looks like it hasnt been touched since the 1930s. None of the inside door locks work, wiring is protruding from the ceiling/walls, theres an HVAC/water heater in our bedroom closet, things like toilet paper holders and electrical switches are bizarrely installed (one literally simultaneously controls an outside door light and an inside outlet), and so on. Of course, work orders were put it for what was fixable, and maintenance has yet to show.
Whats more is that the staffs blatant dishonesty and lack of attention to/responsibility for mistakes isnt even worth a low cost advantage: you can get the exact same amenities or more for a lower price (Sun Bay) or a comparable one (Arbor), etc. The plan was for us to stay here long term, but well be leaving the second our lease is up.
