Saint Xavier University

SXU is just out of the reach of a few of Chicago’s rail stations. The Oak Lawn station is two and a half mile away, and the Beverly Hills stops are three miles away, as is the Ashburn stop to the north. Students could organize a park and ride situation if they can find a place to keep their car, or they could take the bus to the train stations and back, but they will most likely not be using them in their commute. But the PACE and CTA buses are great, and of course if you can walk or get a ride from a friend these are the easiest ways to get to class. Saint Xavier has a great working relationship with Chicago, which has led to the school developing their campus out into the city and tapping into local resources. Students can use the school’s advisors and alumni to make the transition from school to Chicago’s job market. If you’re looking for the leaping point into your career, there aren’t many better options than this. But to even have that opportunity the academics have to be right, and at Saint Xavier that’s nothing to worry about. With a small student population (only 3,000 undergrads) and a talented group of faculty, the school is perfect for what the location offers.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
