Charleston is a small city in Illinois that was once home to a member of one of the most important families in American History. Abraham Lincoln's father lived just south of the city in the early 1800s, and the future president himself was a frequent visitor. The site where Thomas Lincoln lived is now a historic site.

The most important business in the area is Eastern Illinois University. The 12000 students that attend account for more than half of the full-time population of the city, and with 2000 employees, it is the most important employer as well. The University has produced several illustrious graduates, including the actor John Malkovich, and Dallas Cowboy's quarterback, Tony Romo.

A Panther's game at the University is the quickest way to see the pride that this small town takes in it's school. If you head downtown, you'll be treated to century old architecture and restaurants that feature local flavors.
