EDITED TO UPDATE FOLLOWING MANAGER ACTION: Alex, the property manager did contact me after I left this review and was able to help me get my deposit back in a timely manner. I appreciate they went out their way to correct the issue, so I wanted to update the review to reflect that. I just wish this couldve happened back when I moved out, but there couldve been outside factors affecting things. As long as you keep track of payments and invoices, Id recommend this place to live.
Original posting: Safe and quiet place to live but move in/move out process is a nightmare. I waited 5 months to see if the issue would be resolved and it hasnt which is why Im leaving a review so late after moving out (August 2021).
I want to start with the good things first, because most of my living experience at InterUrban was great. Its a quiet, safe community and the grounds are well maintained .The pool and gym were always clean. The maintenance staff were very responsive and nice, and any work order I placed was taken care of the day of or next day. The front office staff and leasing agents were also responsive and polite all the time. My main issue was the move in/out process.
When I moved into Interurban in January, they were very helpful as I moved across the country on a quick turn around and had to sign a lease sight unseen. When I arrived and the leasing agent at the time did the walk through, it was evident the apartment hadnt been inspected since the last resident. There were packets of food and an instant pot still in the cabinets, sticky stuff in the refrigerator, and other small things. I understand there are lots of units and things get missed so I wasnt too upset. But upon me moving out, I was instructed to do a large detailed list of things to get my deposit back including vacuuming the outside window tract, pulling the entire stove out (which was stuck) and cleaning behind it, wiping barely there crumbs in the refrigerator door seals, etc. Normally I would be okay with this as I want a clean apartment myself as a new tenant, but I was essentially cleaning the wear and tear of two tenants since I moved into an unclean apartment. Then, after okaying interurban to take the professional carpet cleaner out my deposit refund as instructed (you have option of them doing that or hiring your own), I never received my deposit back. They sent it to the mailbox of my InterUrban unit a month after I moved out of state, which the current tenant would have received. They said they did this because I didnt leave a forwarding address but I was never asked for one during any of the THREE separate move out inspections I was required to do. I assumed theyd ask for one when the closing paperwork went through and checked our. They had my email and phone number too. Had I owed money I know they wouldnt have sent the notice to the unit I no longer live in. I called them and the office and they said they dont have anything to do with it and to call Tamarack. Tamarack properties just said I could check with USPS to see if they delivered it to the mailbox (assuming the check wasnt already cashed). They also offered to let me put in a request for them to resend it to my current address for a fee if InterUrban management approved it which I chose to do. This was in August, and I still havent received a deposit refund. Im hoping its better now but this was my experience in August/early September 2021.
