My wife, dog and I moved into the Higby approximately 4 months ago and have had a tremendous experience so far. Seeing a lot of the reviews below reference the older staff but as long as we've been here the team has been amazing.
Sebastian, Emily and Jaime are super professional, really friendly and overall a great team to have managing the property. The amenities are great for us as well- outdoor patio space with grills and a fireplace, the dog run (HUGE for us since we have a 1 year old boxer!) and really comfortable / clean accommodations.
We're super close to San Pablo Park which has basketball and tennis courts, plenty of space to run and lots of grass for our pup. Berkeley Bowl is super close as well. If you're into the beer scene there is an incredible brewery down the street called Novel, and lots of food choices in Berkeley, Oakland or even Emeryville... all really near by. Our USPS mail carrier, Dale, is awesome as well and overall I feel like I've been in the neighborhood for years.
Absolutely 0 complaints and I would easily recommend living here. I'm not sure if its possible but feel free to reach out to me for any questions via this google review and I'll try to answer to the best of my ability.

Been living here 4 months and it has been fantastic. I don't know about the old building manager but from understanding all the staff is new. Sebastian is the building manager and has been super helpful and accomadating since the beginning. Emily is the assistant manager and she keeps the place running smoothly and is always down for a friendly chat. Jaime is the facilities manager and has been so helpful with every little request we have had.
The building has tons of amenities, a gym, dog run, on site parking, bocce ball court, roof top with fireplace, tv grills and sound systems. It's blocksfrom Berkeley bowl, 3 bus lines right outside (one is a transbay!). The building also puts on little get togethers a for the residents every so often. It really helps to build a community feel. We are SUPER happy with our choice to live at the Higby!

Sturdy build quality is all it has going for it. Very rude and curt building manager, John; most interactions were very uncomfortable, he made it feel like we were wasting his time. He also did not give us a walk through on move-in. I've also witnessed him screaming into the phone at another resident. Dogs use 2nd floor recreational area to pee even though you aren't allowed, even witnesses the supers dog there. Slow response to work orders, some were never filled. Parking is inconvenient, and spots are really tight if you do not have a compact car. A lot of neighbors do not welcome the building, have received several negative remarks from neighbors, even two passerbys cheering that we were moving out. Wish I had better things to say about the building, really wanted to love it, but I didn't.
Lived here for almost a year and a half. Unprofessional management that was difficult to work with (watch out for John Rivera). Poor security...
