I hate this rental company. They've lost my mail, I've had packages stolen, they've given me very short notice before entering my apartment and now that I'm done with my year lease and on month to month they keep raising my rent. Every month. To the point where it's extremely expensive and not at all fair for 1 person to be paying for a TINY studio. Also despite being on a month to month lease and literally not being able to afford their ridiculous rent prices and hidden fees, they ask for extra money to leave the lease with a 1 month notice. So I'm stuck, going into debt for an extra month on an apartment I'm desperately trying to get out of. DO NOT RENT HERE. I would give them negative stars if I could.

Our refrigerator doesnt defrost properly and after having maintenance come to fix it four times, my husband has given up and uses our hair dryer to melt the ice in the freezer. We have thrown away hundreds of dollars of food because theres no indication of when it will stop cooling the fridge section.
Our oven doesnt hold a consistent temperature and the temperature gauge is not accurate. When I mentioned this they said to get my own oven thermometer instead of it being fixed. When setting the oven to 350 degrees it will usually heat up to 450-500. To cook anything in the oven takes constant attention standing next to it to check the temperature.
Our heating went out in the winter and it took two days for someone to come fix it. It was 54 degrees in the apartment.
I saw an elderly person nearly fall on the ice flow behind our building. I, myself, fell three times last winter. When I called management to complain they said to throw salt down and be careful. I asked if someone could come break it up or do something as it is obviously dangerous and was told that the maintenance was on overtime so no one could do it. No one ever did anything with it.
There has been something going on with remodeling nearly at all times, which could be nice, except for the chaos and mess left behind by whatever building company is doing the work. There has been plaster dust and drywall clumps all over my clean sheets. Metal shavings all over the floor. Muddy footprints. Clods of dirt. Piles of debris where they have cut up the wall or sawed pipe or put in new windows(at which time they broke our blinds in the bedroom). I told management and they said theyd let whomever know to be cleaning up after themselves. I told them three times with no difference in behavior.
These are not stand alone experiences as other residents have told me about similar issues. There comes a point when you just dont alert maintenance or management because it does nothing, and thats where we are.

Currently living in a studio off Grand and although I love my apartment itself (great neighborhood, beautiful older building, hardly EVER hear my neighbors) I've had multiple small issues that could've very easily been avoided had the staff at the company actually paid attention to what goes on in their buildings. I've had one package stolen from the entryway (I was just gone for the day, it was not there by the time I got home, despite amazon literally taking a picture of it in my entryway to ensure delivery). As far as maintenance goes they seem to respond very well when units around me are having issues, they've entered my apartment to deal with water leaking into the unit below without notifying me ahead of time yet when I've been asked to fill out forms to describe maintenance issues I'm having they take care of half of them (my fan wasn't properly connected to the wall and they replaced it with a brand new one, but failed to fix the chain and plug in the back of my toilet, I had to buy the parts and fix it myself). Additionally, while I loved the resident gym at first, (I go during the day and it's usually empty with older, but functioning machines for my needs) but when a man was literally standing in the gym, full street clothes and NOT DOING ANYTHING but sitting and staring at me with his hands clasped on his lap and I went to the office to speak with someone to have him kicked out, they said he was a resident and despite having complaints about him before, couldn't do anything about him staring at me, a petite woman and the only other person in the gym but him. Management got snippy with me when I stated they deal with the issue and that I would leave and not work out that day, not offering any real help or resolution to what could've been a very disgusting situation.

Worst rental company ever! Let's just say because of them I almost ended up homeless. I applied for a town house and for three weeks this company had me running all over town trying to get documents filled out by all sorts of people. Finally, three weeks goes by and still no word. When they finally got the documents needed for my service animal, they quickly sent out a letter denying my application. When I called to get an explanation, the service provider was very aggressive and would only tell me "a letter has been sent out"- the letter explained why I was denied, but the information was false and could not be verified true anywhere (so their reasoning is invalid). For three weeks this company made me believe the house was mine to rent and kept assuring me they just needed final touches of paper work. In these three weeks I have told my current landlord I will not be renewing- thank god that didn't happen or I wouldn't have a place to live this coming spring. Unless you have a secure back up plan I would never recommend this company ever! Rude customer service to say the least. My experience proves they truly just don't care.

I love my place at At Home Apartments. I have lived at two different properties and I'm living in an Uptown property and I have never experienced any issues. When we have a maintenance request, it is speedily fixed and we are always treated with the utmost respect. We have an excellent property manager, Dave Lindau, who has helped us ed every step of the way from the tour, to any small question or issue. At Home Apartments truly cares about their tenants.

After a detailed rescheduling, they call me the previous evening from my appointment date and say they are short staffed and they need to cancel this appointment. They give me a date after 4 days for a showing appointment and then give it to someone else. They are profiling their customers and i think the leasing agent is very rude and has a big ego. I hope the company notices these negative reviews and correct them to survive in the market.

Stood in the rain. Get another call about 10 minutes later, she says Marilyn is still late and so they were going to give her 12:45 appointment the tour when she got there and asked me if I could wait... in the rain... until 1 pm because I hadn't called to confirm the appointment.. which was set the day before. I was appalled. So unprofessional, do not set up a tour with these people.

I've lived with At Home for one year, and will be signing another year lease with them this week. I don't have a single negative thing to say about them. (I typically deal with the Grand Ave office, specifically.) Maintenance issues have ALWAYS been addressed within 24 hours, and every interaction I've had with the office has been both personable and professional. Will always recommend.

My husband and I have had a good experience living with At Home Apartments for the past year and a half. Their online portal is helpful and maintenance is done in a timely manner. We moved into a recently renovated apartment that we had to sign a lease for "blindly" before any of the updates took place. Although it turned out great, there were some issues with the renovation. Right when we moved in we noticed the water was constantly running in the new toilet and it turned out a gasket had to be replaced. Within the first two months of living in our apartment, water was dripping under the new sink because some type of sealant had been improperly installed. On both occasions their handyman took care of the issue right away and left a note about the work completed on scratch paper. It seems to me that this large of a leasing company could afford a standard maintenance note of some kind for all of the people performing maintenance. They also had 2 months to renovate the space but chose to leave the painting until the very last thing so 3 days before move-in we got a call inquiring about the paint color we had already told their agents at our lease signing 2 months prior. There were very potent paint smells the first week of living there, which could have been easily avoidable. Additionally, the process of leasing our apartment in the first place was a huge hassle.
When trying to view apartments, on two occasions the leasing company canceled our viewings very last minute because some else had already submitted their application for the property. We had both already rearranged our work schedules to accommodate the viewings, and the apartment we actually ended up in my husband was unable to see before we applied for it. We set up a showing for him to see it after we were accepted, and the leasing office forgot to send an agent to show it--so after calling them someone who was not knowledgeable about the property came to let us see it.
Now that we are already residents of At Home we are looking to downsize. I saw a listing for a studio that was added on the first of the month and we called the next day to set up a viewing. The leasing office did not offer many times to view it and once again we got notified 7 hours before the scheduled showing that someone else had applied for it (not signed a lease, just applied) and therefore we could not view it. We were still hoping to see the space in case another property became available in the building or the first applicant was not accepted -- especially since we had already accommodated our work schedules. This is when they decided to inform us of their policy. We were not even aware that anyone was viewing the property before us.
Their policies seem to be outdated because the priority should go to the person/people that set up their showing first, not whose schedule meshes better with At Home's and thus gets see the property first. I would think that having been tenants for over a year and a half year, and therefore already passed their application we should have been "first" in line. As we continue to look for a new residence we will not be considering At Home's listings.

I'm currently renting from this company. They're customer/resident service is garbage. You can tell they are all about the money. In my current apartment, the windows are original and rotted beyond belief. This causes both air and water to weep under and around the windows. I have made 2 attempts to get them to fix this issue which they claimed they have "fixed." Not the case. Now, for a third time I will have to call them to fix the paint pulling away from my living room walls due to moisture continuing to penetrate my windows/walls.
Avoid! They charge an arm and a leg for rent and return a service that is mediocre. Office staff are clueless and rude!

We've had great service; everything we request (maintenance, paperwork, etc.) is managed quickly and effectively. AHA treats residents with respect; we have autonomy and privacy, but we know they'll take good care of us if we need anything! We highly recommend them!

I had a very professional experience renting at their newly refurbished location:The lookout in Merriam, KS. I moved from out of state and the office staff were very helpful and polite in taking and showing me the apartment via pictures and leasing via email correspondence. Maintenance requests were taken care of promptly and the property management software that allows online bill pay works very well.
Overall, I definitely recommend renting from At Home Apartments!
