University Of Portland

The University has made it clear that it wants to take steps to help students and faculty reduce their carbon footprint, and the school’s public transportation system is the best way they do this. There’s a UP shuttle that picks up and drops off around campus, including the nearby Yellow Line MAX rail line, which many students use to travel to and from UP. There are also two city bus routes that run by UP’s campus, and the city has a streetcar service that can be helpful too. Two other options are biking and car-sharing, which aren’t as common but are still viable transit methods. Most of Portland’s safest neighborhoods are across the Willamette Sound from the University of Portland, such as Linnton, Cedar Mill, and West Union, and Bethany/Rock Creek, to name four. A lot of UP students will want to be closer to school, and in this case they look towards North Portland, which is much closer and very safe. The school’s actual campus area has low crime, but some of the communities that immediately surround it don’t.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
