Morton College

Cicero is a 20 minute drive away from downtown Chicago, but students who don’t have cars rely on public transportation to commute to the city and their off-campus rentals. In fact, choosing a rental along the local public transit grid is a popular move for Morton students. The college is a few miles away from the nearest subway stations: the blue line along Interstate 290, the pink line near downtown Cicero, and the orange line on West 50th Street south of campus. You won’t be able to walk to any of these stations but there are buses that can bring you to each of them. Morton’s campus is sandwiched between the most safe and fifth safest Cicero communities, and is bordered by the fourth and sixth, according to the crime website Neighborhood Scout. Living near the campus in the southwestern part of town is the best place in Cicero to find an apartment crime-wise. Other neighborhoods, especially in southeast and northwest part of Cicero, have higher crime rates and aren’t as safe to live in for students.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
