Harold Washington College

A whole rainbow of subway lines run within a block of Harold Washington College. There’s pink, red, purple, blue--essentially all of the city’s subway routes. Also a block away is the Randolph St. Metra station, which is a stop for the Metra Rail. If you look further away from campus, you’ll find that any form of public transportation in the city is walkable from here. And even walking itself is a functional way of getting around; after all, you’re in the Loop. There are so many great things to do and places to be within walking distance of campus. One of the complaints about city living is that everything is so much more expensive. This isn’t true at Harold Washington College. They understand that attending the University of Chicago or Northwestern University is out of many families’ price ranges, and offers an affordable solution. Not only that, but HWC’s location beats out pretty much every other school in the city. Students have unparalleled access to downtown Chicago and the Loop, with recreational and nightlife attractions like famous bars and restaurants, the Millennium and Grant parks, and the culture of a world class city.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
