Southern Village Neighborhood Summary

Southern Village is an attractive planned community in South Chapel Hill. Though it is arranged much more densely than other Chapel Hill neighborhoods, the variety of housing offered here – in addition to the beautiful tree-lined streets – make it a desirable area to live in. The Green Space in the center of the community offers a Farmer’s Market, outdoor movie screenings, and concerts in the amphitheater, among many other events. Southern Village also has a large commercial area on Market Street with many different shops, restaurants, and a movie theater. This area is a fantastic option for young professionals and grad students because of its proximity to US 15-501 and UNC-CH’s campus.

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
