There are three major issues I have with this complex. Let us start with the obvious problem. The security gate was broken when I arrived, they claimed for a couple months, and when I left it still had not been fixed that is about two years of not fixing a security issue. My second point of contention comes from an error which saved me money but does show a lack of responsibility in the leasing staff (to be fair she did leave the job right after I left but she told me she just started at a different Seldin property). My issue is that even after I signed the paperwork to renew my lease for 9 months after the initial 12 months they never put it into the system. Sure this meant that I was charged a lower rate for about 5 months, however, they eventually caught it they said I never renewed my lease and threatened to evict me. Luckily, I had my copy of the renewed lease and gave it to them to prove I was in the clear but their error shows a lack of responsibility and disorganization on their part. My final major issue has less to do with the apartments themselves but the parent Seldin company - this is that they are engaging in legally questionable practices concerning internet and cable. Towards the end of my lease Spectrum cable/wifi box wall inserts were installed in every apartment. Why? Because Seldin and Spectrum have entered a deal that gives Spectrum a virtual monopoly over the complex's wifi and cable purchases by forcing tenants to pay for Spectrum internet/cable by including it on their utilities bill. Whether one wants Spectrum or not, cable or not, internet or not, they are forced to pay for service - which is likely breaking FCC guidelines for anyone still living there that is dissatisfied with this arrangement I would recommend looking into legal counsel and suing the company.
This was my first apartment and over the past 21 months I have had my ups and downs with it. Overall, the price for the square footage/location was pretty good, the apartment for the most part the apartment was in good condition, and the staff was pretty friendly. However, the three major issues I listed plus a variety of other smaller issues means I cannot give Sierra Ridge a good review. I would give it only 1 star but I believe that if you are unfazed by my major issues then you will find it an alright complex; in between these issues occurring it was an alright place to live but even so I would not want to live there for more than a couple years.
