I've been a tenant of Stark Firs for many years. The company has changed and grown a lot but they have always been a good place to live. Recently my kitchen sink wouldn't drain, maintenance was over within the hour to fix it. The young man was very friendly and did his job quick without making a mess!

Everyone here was really helpful while I was apartment hunting. The office staff was super helpful as they answered and walked me through all my questions. The prices are very reasonable for the growing Portland area, the apartments were updated, clean and roomy. Something that I think is really cool too is they are second chance landlord/property management so they help people through obstacles while looking for housing. I would definitely recommend Stark Firs to friends looking to move in the Portland Area.

They don't take care of properties, our garbage & recycling are always over flowing because it doesn't get picked up on a weekly basis, charge ridiculous amounts for rent for properties that have 10+year old carpet that is coming up and makes my kids fall, doesn't even have a tow company so when people are parked in fire lanes or behind your vehicle or in your spot they won't do anything about it, rude, dont even know what their maintenance crews are doing, stopped taking care of our small backyards. I've lived at my complex since 2013 & never had a problem until they took over this year. I recently have been trying to leave a domestic violence relationship with the help of several agencies and stark firs is no help at all. Even the agencies are complaining that they are the most difficult rental agency that they have ever had to work with. They gave me addresses to the "only 2 properties available " & when I arrived at one of the complexes, the whole place was in a fight in the parking lot with police on their way. I asked one of the residence how it was to live there and they basically told me not only did they have the same problems with stark firs but also the place is filled with drugs and violence. I told stark firs and the lady laughed and pretended to jot down notes. Do not rent from this company. Portland is a big city with much safer, cleaner and more affordable housing with managers and owners who actually care.

I really had an awful experience applying for an apartment with Stark Firs recently, their application policy on units is only good for 30 days and only for applying to one apartment complex per $40 fee even though they manage multiple sites around town. I came in with a completed application about a month and a half ago and was told that applications are only good for 30 days, because I wasn't ready to move in until the 1st of June I would need to return on the 1st of May. I did just that and came in to talk to a manager, Brittany at that point who I discussed what I was looking for. I told her I was unable to move in until June 1st and that I needed a one bedroom on the east side. I was informed by Brittany that there was only one apartment available currently that met my criteria and that it would be ready on May 15th. I reminded Brittany once again that I couldn't move in until the the 1st of June and she said it shouldn't be an issue and took my $40 for the application fee, telling me they would be in touch within 3-4 days. About a week later on 5/7 I received a call saying I was approved but that I needed to move in on the 15th of May. I told the girl over the phone that I had said I couldn't do anything until the 1st of June and was told a manager would need to approve the apartment hold. (I still haven't been given a tour of the unit at this point.) Brittany calls me back on 5/8 to inform me that I would need to move in on the 15th and that my $40 application fee was nonrefundable as per upper management. I asked her why she told me the 1st would be okay when we originally met and she said it was, "an obvious miscommunication on both our parts." the whole time trying to pressure me into moving forward and paying deposits to move in on the 15th regardless of my dissatisfaction. Brittany is your typical "used car salesman" type in my opinion. She will tell you one thing then change what she said after the fact. Brittany was very rude during our conversation as well, cutting me off on several occasions. I had little experience with anyone else but if this is a representation of their management then I'm unimpressed. My overall impression of Stark Firs is very poor. Terrible management, poor customer service, and application policies that take advantage of potential renters. In retrospect the $40 is trivial, I'm most upset about the waste of my time and the way I was treated by Stark Firs manager Brittany. My advice would be to rent from ANYONE else and save yourself from getting hustled by this second rate rental management company.

My experience with Stark Firs is less than desirable. Especially with Maintenance. 2 out of 3 times they came on service calls requested by me, they damaged my carpet with black paint, got black paint on the bathroom and entry floors. Painted the stair railing with the wrong type of paint. We couldn't use the railing due to it being tacky after 3 days of waiting for it to dry. Did not put in a new float for the toilet as I requested. The toilet still is not flushing properly and we must leave the lid open to flush. This occurred on 2/26/18. I notified them on 03/01/18 that it's still not fixed! No one has come to fix the toilet or have I heard from them about the toilet. No one has come or have I heard about the carpet. Ron came after I sent in the Maintenance request on 03/09/18 and stated ORS 90.320 which states; the hand rail must be in good working order and it wasn't. I never said it was loose! It wasn't. We had been using just fine. He yanked it from side to side and if course it was loose! He fixed it. Hahh! I'll tell you how, what it looks like and show you. First of all two people came to my house. They didn't; introduce themselves to me. So I don't really know who they were. The chick left leaving the guy Ron I assume from our texts. I went to my room and closed the door to get ready. When I came out no one was here. I grabbed my roomie and when I went down the stairs the following pics is what I saw. I went Berserk! I was Livid! This doesn't belong in a home, it belongs in a barn! This isn't the work of a Maintenance Man, it's the work of Homer Simpson! It appears to me, he went to the dumpster got two blocks of wood. Two different types of wood! Didn't sand them, didn't finish them. Infact, they are marred up and one has a big old sliver protruding upwards! Slapped them together haphazardly and attached them to the Black Metal Post with Silver Cable Straps! Silver Cable Straps that don't go all the way around the post causing the Cable Straps to bite into the post disfiguring it. This contraption isn't even Level let alone Not the proper way to sturdy a railing or the proper Materials for the inside of a home! Look at the pictures and you be the judge on Stark Firs Maintenance. I also told them about the Paint Chips chipping off of Every cupboard, drawer, closet, door and door jam in the apartment. I have yet to hear from anyone at Stark Firs Maintenance about this matter. The Paint Chips are Everywhere! I curse them and Stark Firs everyday! I've found them on the floor, on the carpet, counter, refrigerator, sink, stove, my clothes, plates of food, my dogs feet and the inside and outside of the coffee pot!!! I cannot cook, eat out of any dish or cup and use any utensil without wiping it down with a towel first to get any possible Paint Chips!! I notified them and sent the pictures in on 02/25/18. So, I have so pretty good reasons not to give Stark Firs, especially Stark Firs Maintenance a good rating and review!

My car was vandalized multiple times in the parking lot (supposedly a guarded parking lot, it definitely is not.) Management behaves as if you don't exist and everything you need is absolutely ridiculous. No slack. No leeway. The second management removed a window and the last one charged me close to $2400 to replace it. Very Ghetto. I had guns pulled on me in the parking lot. Lots of fighting, violence, drugs, crime. Constant noise from all neighbors. Several got busted for containing meth labs. Came in raised rent while making things worse and got rid of all the old tenents to be able to skyrocket rent.

They manage several properties with various amenities and locations. Stark Firs is a second chance landlord for evictions and credit problems. If you are looking in SE PDX for affordable housing; check them out.

The never fix anything in apartment. The manager was always yelling outside. Meth heads everywhere (including the apartment manager!) I would not let my worst enemies live here.

My family and I have been tenants with Stark Firs Management for 3+ years. Unlike other management companies I've dealt with in the past, Stark Firs employees are pleasant to speak to and are very quick to address any issues ive brought to them. From maintenance requests to acquiring information they've always been very helpful and understanding of the problem. The property is kept clean and the building well maintained. The surrounding neighborhood is not the greatest but Stark Firs has done an excellent job of providing my family with a safe place to live which is very important.

I stayed by my friends house for about 2 weeks and he lived in Stark Firs Apartments. They were clean on the inside, quiet and I always felt safe. The neighborhood appears a little rough but the units themselves are very nice. I would recommend a person looking for housing to try stark firs. I didnt see any issues that would stop me from renting here.

I rented the apartment with a friend and within hours we realized that the place had a flea infestation of plague proportions. Management's response to this was "go buy some bug bombs" It took us hundreds of dollars, four months, and a truckload of Borax to get rid of the awful little parasites. All of which were there long before we'd even moved in. State law mandates that any leasing company ensures that the property is in liveable condition before a new tenant moves in but since the majority of their tenants are poor and ignorant of their rights Stark Firs thrives by neglecting their needs. It's also been over three months and I still haven't received my deposit back-- every cent of which I am absolutely entitled to since I left the place in much better condition than how it was when I came.

I just moved in to one of stark fir apartments. And last night I parked by my stair well while I unloaded my car. I live upstairs. Then when I went to park in space. But battery was dead. So I went to my place to wait for it to charge up and or gets jump. Within thi this time the tow. Company towed me. I even have a park sticker in the window. I am 53yrs. An old lady. Which has problems hauling stuff up the stairs. And it does not say anything about have to be parked in a space or you will be towed. Stark firs Mang wouldn't help in any manor. When talking with them, they where very rude and kept yelling at me risky. The slamming phone down hanging up. They are real true slum Lords.and don't treat there Tennant's fairly.

I live next door to these apartments and have called several times to get the garbage that their maintenance team blows into my yard cleaned up. They recently remodeled and their construction workers threw empty bottles of caulk, pieces of siding with nails stickin out of it, and other various pieces of garbage from working into my yard. The final thing that has thoroughly set me overboard is not nearly stepping on rusty nails from boards from their remodel and the garbage from their lot being blown into my yard a old with leaf blowers, the old rusty steak knife broken dishes or the continuous fights breaking out in their parking lot but he dirty needle (for shooting up)that thrown into my yard (Along with used tampons old water bottles and other things) I understand that living next to an apartment complex means cleaning up trash that's not from my house. But this is excessive, after calling around 12 times, leaving voicemails a very uninterested women answered the phone and seemed indifferent to the dirty needle and trash in my yard but, said she would send maintence out and they never showed up and still do not answer the phone in their office. You would think an apartment community manager would care about these things. Unfortunately they have proven they do not.
