Loyola Marymount University

More than 3500 students at LMU work on campus, many as part of their Work Study, though it may be difficult to find a position as the number of students desiring jobs exceeds the number of available jobs. Living within a bustling city means there are many entry-level employment opportunities, but the unemployment rate in Los Angeles was around 12% as of August 2012, which is higher than the national average. Luckily, Career Development Services (CDS) offers aid to Loyola Marymount University students seeking employment. LMU is located in Los Angeles, which is actually a basin with a Mediterranean Climate. Summers are dry, and winters are rainy-- and it’s usually warm. At the coldest, a winter day may sink to about 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Snow is extremely, extremely rare. Some months, like April and May, may not see rain at all. The wettest year on record actually happened in 2005, followed by the driest year ever in 2007! Temperatures of more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit have been reported even in October, so dress accordingly.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
