Los Angeles City College

I don’t think anyone would disagree if I said that Los Angeles is one of the top dining cities in the country, and maybe even the world. Even near Los Angeles City College, which is removed from some of the more downtown neighborhoods, there are so many great places to eat. Forget what you heard about expensive city living--you’ll easily be able to eat out on a college budget in the area. In fact, right near campus there’s Amalia’s, Rincon Chileno, Sompun Thai, and Marouch, all terrific restaurants that are only a block or two away from LACC. Renting close to LACC will be expensive, but definitely worth it in the safety department. Hollywood and West Holly are right next to LACC, and both are great places to live. Most of the crime in Hollywood is property crimes (shoplifting or robbery) because it’s a concentrated retail shopping area. Silver Lake is on the other side of LACC, and it hasn’t always been a low-crime area, but recently it’s become very trendy and more affluent. I’ve heard more complaints about “hipsters” from clients than crime, which I don’t really understand. Anyway, if you can afford the area, you won’t regret renting here.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
