Find a Fort Lauderdale Apartment

Some think of Florida, and immediately recall its reputation as a retirement community. However, Fort Lauderdale has much more to offer than that. First, it has an outstanding climate, offering some of the best year round weather in the country. With roughly 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, locals are hard pressed to find anything to complain about when it comes to the weather.

That sun also brings a lot of tourists to Fort Lauderdale. It sees year-round tourist traffic, and is a popular Spring Break destination with college-age students. Although the city technically only has 165,000 residents, it is part of the much larger South Florida metro area. The metropolitan area has a calculated population of around 5.6 million people.

When to Search

The best time to apply for an apartment in Fort Lauderdale is in the summertime. The winter is full of people who are competing for the available apartments in order to escape harsher climates up north. In the summer, the competition is much less fierce, and you should find more apartments at better prices for you to choose from.

Staying in the Know

Consider carefully the neighborhood that you select when applying for apartments in Fort Lauderdale. Because of the popularity of Spring Break, neighborhoods by the bars or clubs that can seem convenient during much of the year can become extremely loud and crazy when the partiers come to town. If that is not your preferred scene, shop in more residential neighborhoods.

Life in Fort Lauderdale

Transportation

Public transit is available by land and sea in Fort Lauderdale. The BCT and Sun Trolley systems operate transit routes throughout the city. There is also a Water Bus that travels up the coastline, which can be a convenient and scenic way to get around. Most people prefer to drive, but it can be tricky to learn how to navigate around the canals that break up the city.

Where to play

The stunning beach is the star of Fort Lauderdale. In addition to relaxing and enjoying beachfront activities, there is also a long strip of bars and restaurants that line the streets along the beachfront. The Galaria mall near the beach offers excellent shopping. Activity out on the water is popular too, and a number of companies offer deep sea fishing expeditions. Miami is less than 30 miles away, so many people head into Miami to take in world-class concerts, or to watch the several professional sports teams that call that city home.
