Lesley University

Lesley’s campus is squeezed in between the Harvard Square and Porter Square T stops, both of which are on Boston’s Red subway line. Depending on where you decide to live in off-campus, you will be closer to one of these two, or another of the Red line’s stops like Central or Davis Square. Either way, you can’t go wrong. The Red Line is generally the best subway service in Boston in terms of service, reliability, and coverage. From Lesley you are connected to Medford, Beacon Hill, Downtown Boston, South Boston, Quincy and nearly any area of Cambridge through the red line. The MBTA also runs buses in the area that you can take if your rental is near a stop. Boston’s neighborhoods all have commercial areas, and in Cambridge Harvard Square is one of them. If you want to live in the square or directly outside of it then it will be tough to find rentals that fit your budget and needs. However, if you travel a bit further outside of the square (but still within walking distance) around Cambridge and Somerville, there are pleasant residential areas that look like they belong in a Boston suburb. Cambridge is a huge college town with MIT, Harvard, and Lesley, so there is a ton of housing available (and you will most likely have college-aged neighbors). Just remember that if you want to live in a more commercial area like Harvard or Kendall Square it will be more expensive.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
