Most people in Seattle drive cars, though King County Metro and Sound Metro have many bus routes, commuter rail, and light rail stops. The Monorail between the center of Seattle and Downtown is about 1 mile long. There are also ferries around Washington State, Zipcars for rent, and safe cyclist routes. At SPU, students are offered monthly bus passes, RideShare options, and Motor Pool cars. The SPU campus is pretty safe. In the past few years, there have been no homicides, hate crimes, illegal weapons, arrests on campus, or other crimes besides burglaries, really. In Seattle, the crime rate is higher than both the national and Washington state averages. There are at least 20-25 murders a year. Seattle’s rate of burglaries, larcenies, stolen cars, and robberies is much higher than the US average. Some of the safest areas are Lake City, Magnolia Boulevard, Westlake, Meridian, Laurelhurst, Interbay, Loyal Heights, and View Ridge. The more dangerous areas are Delridge, Georgetown, Briercrest, Little Beirut, Hillman City, Foy, as well as Burien, Tukwila, Tacoma, are places that people moving to Seattle would hope not to live.

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
