San Jose City College

In 2000, the number of rentals within ten miles of the college was 191,026. Then, just nine years later in 2009, the number spiked to 206,379. As you can see, the popularity of rentals has skyrocketed in the area. As more listings pop up in the market, there will naturally be more variety and, most importantly, a more diverse price range. Typically, rentals are very expensive if you’re looking to live near campus: the average monthly rent of a two bedroom apartment within 10 miles of campus is $2085. However, if you keep your eye on San Jose’s rental market, as well as the markets in surrounding areas like Campbell and Santa Clara, you should be able to find a reasonably priced apartment. SJC performed a survey asking students how they get to classes every day. The vast majority (84%) said that they drive themselves. Six percent take public transportation, and another five percent carpool. The survey also found that the average commute times for students are between 15 and 30 minutes (41% of students) and less than fifteen minutes (30%). Even though there are small minorities of students who ride bikes and walk to class, you will probably need a car to commute to campus. Or, an option I would suggest looking into is you can look at the city’s public transportation routes and find listings near bus stops, then take them to class.
