Washington Square West Neighborhood Summary

Although it’s just west of Old City, Washington Square West is centuries away, as one of the hippest places in Philly’s Center City. It contains the lively Gayborhood area (which features tons of LGBTQ-geared shops and bars, plus rainbow street signs), Midtown Village, as well as Washington Square itself, which was first named Southeast Square in 1682. This neighborhood has notoriously poor parking options, but Philly’s SEPTA public transport serves the area well and makes getting around easy and quick. In the rental realm, there is a lot to choose from for most budgets. However, if you’re hoping for something small and cheap, start your search early, because those units go fast.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
