Pratt Institute

The Pratt Institute is just a mile off the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, which makes the commuting relatively easy for students driving from other parts of the city. But traffic on the expressway or on the city streets, especially during rush hour, can be a real pain. Most students would rather avoid it altogether and take public transportation. There are two subway stops near Pratt, both of which are a half mile (seven minute walk) away. These two stations, Classon Ave and Clinton-Washington Ave, are both stops for the city’s G train. Pratt students come to the city expecting to cross into Manhattan every weekend for its nightlife, but they quickly find out that Brooklyn has almost as much to offer. The NBA’s Nets franchise recently moved to the new Barclays Center, and the NHL’s Islanders will also be relocating there soon. Brooklyn has also become one of the hippest parts of the city in the past decade, which led to bars, clubs, restaurants, and art/music venues becoming trendy. There will be no shortage of apartment parties, concerts, and club going opportunities for Pratt students on the weekend.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
