South University Neighborhood Summary

As the name suggests, this Eugene neighborhood lies just south of the University of Oregon campus, between Agate and Willamette streets and north of 24th Avenue. Naturally, this neighborhood is where a lot of U of O students decide to find an apartment. But in addition to all of the available student housing — constructed mainly along 18th Avenue, the campus’ southern border — South University is also known for its history: A few of its Craftsman, Italianate, and Gothic Vernacular buildings date back to the turn of the century. Although it is near the campus and convenient to students, South University is very residential and doesn’t have many bars, grocery stores, and restaurants of its own. Luckily, downtown Eugene is only a mile away.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
