I love living at Berk 9. The staff is super friendly and its super close to Duke, the grocery store and restaurants. I was on the wait list and I was so happy when they called and told me they had the apartment I wanted. I would for sure recommend Berk 9 to anyone.

Leasing agents are incredibly, incredibly sketchy. Until you have a lease signed, you should probably assume they are offering the same apartments to multiple people, and that any information they give you (move in date, date available) is subject to change. Had extremely dishonest (whether intentional or not, I'm not sure) dealing with them multiple times. Once they "guaranteed" a floor plan would be available only to hear after months on the waitlist that it wouldnt be, then they offered an apartment for a certain date only to say that date actually wasn't accurate, then after we'd accepted the apartment, they told us that it actually wasn't available, then they offered us another apartment, which we later found out that had already offered to someone else who had signed for it. Just save yourself the headache and anxiety and go next door to S9, or one of the other comparable apartments nearby.

I have lived at Berkshire Ninth for over 2 years and overall Im very happy here. Its location is awesome. Being so close to restaurants and grocery stores is very convenient.
The apartment itself is beautiful. I like the high end finishes and the modern look.
The amenities are nice too, especially the gym. I appreciate that there are a variety of machines/weights to use. There is a lot of outdoor space as well, including a nice pool and fire pit.
The staff is super friendly and helpful! They are a lot of fun and seem dedicated to make residents feel comfortable. Ive enjoyed the resident events they have planned as well. Some of my favorites have been Bulls games, Paint night, Karaoke, and Holiday parties.

This apartment complex is a delight. I just renewed my lease. The building is a repurposed cotton mill and retains its original character. The staff are smart, pleasant, and helpful. I love the Durham 9th Street neighborhood and the urban street life. My apartment is sunny and comfortable with the latest energy conservation amenities. My fellow residents are students, beginning families, and retired seniors. The animal owners comply with strict building rules, and the animals are beautiful. The gardens and sports facilities are fine. This is the best apartment I have lived in since moving to NC from New York City - the only other place I've felt safe and happy.

This business is only able to survive because of the penalties it takes from those who can't deal with the stress of living here. This place does NOT deserve your money. Right before we got our keys we were made to sign a cost agreement regarding starting prices for repairs. As a result the entire time we lived there we lived in fear about scratching the low quality made floors and the stovetop. Since then we have moved to other apartments and have enjoyed our HOME. Also, our lease was a short term and during those short months maintence came at least twice a month. Not a place I would recommend. Pro: walking distance to 9th street.

While the apartment was very nice, the moving out process was not. Given the volume of students moving out the same weekend, Berkshire refused to inspect apartments that weekend. As I was moving out of state, I couldn't wait for the inspection, so simply removed my belongings, cleaned the apartment and left the keys. 6 weeks later, I got a bill for over $1,600 purporting to relate to replacing linoleum floorboards that were scratched - which was news to me. They certainly never called or warned me about this. The pictures they sent were blurred, and didn't show any damage. It was an unhappy ending. Beware the move out process!

I had to leave my job due to health reasons and Berkshire Ninth never explained to me that I would have to pay a 3 month penalty (so called undefined concessions), thus costing me over $4000 to break my lease, and there is no insulation between floors. Had a terrible experience. They lure you in and then they've got you with smoke and mirrors of a beautiful facade.

Good apartments. I don't live there but A+ security. I found an open door and walked in to see what it was like inside and I COULDN'T FIND MY WAY OUT. I found plenty of doors to the outside world but there was no way for me to get out. I assume if I were to rent an apartment in this lovely establishment someone would tell me how to get out, but as an outsider, if getting out proved near impossible, getting in would be even more difficult (barring the happenstance of gates left open, which was my fortunate happenstance). If I had money and a better job and a better life I would seriously consider living here.
