Central Arizona College

The minority of students at CAC live in the dorms. In Coolidge, there are several apartment complexes, though it appears there is little availability. There are several townhouses for rent. It seems that most of the students who commute to CAC live locally with their families, or in the neighboring towns, like Florence and Casa Grande, both of which are more inexpensive places to live. There are many one-bedrooms in Casa Grande for less than $610/month, and two-bedrooms under $650/month. Florence has several three- and four-bedroom options for less than $800/month. The unemployment rates in the Coolidge/Florence areas are especially high, and as of December 2012, were still up around 14.7% and 16.3%. While the cost of living is lower is most parts of Arizona, this is still not good. Many residents in these areas commute to Phoenix for work, or Tucson. Some of the biggest state prisons are located in this area. In the state of Texas, the biggest employer is Walmart with over 30,000 employees, followed by Banner Health, with around 28,000. The service industries are experiencing the most growth here.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
