The place is ok but pricey with too much noise and loud music that bother us when we back from work. billiard table is in middle of sitting room and sometimes the stick hit us when we walk because the bad tight location of the table. ping pong ball hit us when we walk. They should separate the ping pong table and billiard table in different room because it becoming too much noise for us. They need to make a change. we complain and no one listen to us

Original Issue: It's 4 am and the pool area is blasting heavy bass music I can hear through my windows several stories up. No one is down in the pool area. The front desk can't turn it off and won't call anyone to turn this off. Update/Edit: Staff helped out once I found the right people. They seemed interested in resolving things and made a good faith effort to improve the issues I've been having with my unit. Hoping things keep improving from here and will update the review as they do.

The most horrendous apartments you will live in. The management is very irresponsible. From day 1, we moved into the apartments, we have a complain, or a work order every single week. Sometime they cut the power out in the mornings, sometimes the lifts dont work, the construction is just frustrating. The garbage/Chute rooms stink always. They dont chop the plants off the walkway too, there are bees flying around in your face. They dont turn the AC on until the June 1st, even if the temperature is 98F , and people are dying of suffocation. Once the AC is on, the apartments are still the same, coz the AC doesnt blow cool air!!! There are no exhausts in the bathrooms. They are never on their word, they started renovating the laundry rooms in the first week of June, and said it would be done in 4 weeks! And we are still sitting here with no laundry rooms since almost 2 months! I call them to ask what the issue is and when are the laundry rooms ready, the lady who took my call, said that she doesnt have an answer for it! I mean like what?! Who the hell am I supposed to ask then if she doesnt have an answer?! Very rude and irresponsible behavior! Theres no proper security either. There are people at the front desk, but the back gate has a broken lock, and the doors to enter the apartment at the back, are only locked at times. I struggle to open the freaking windows in my apartments each day, breaking my nails!! Nothing is good in these apartments! The disturbance is on peaks! Sadly, they dont value the residents at all.

DO NOT SIGN: The apartment is beautiful; however, the contracts are unethical. And don't be fooled by the amenities, they make you pay for them in the end. I'm a young doctor and finished my intern year early. So, according to contract, I found a subletter. The office sent my subletter an incorrect and more expensive contract three times before finally letting her sign. After the contracts were signed SCIO refused to release me from the contract. I asked to settle my account before leaving Chicago. They refused again. So, although I won't live there for five months (and my subletter signed the same contract) I'm still liable for rent and any damages. It is simply UNETHICAL to refuse to release someone from a contract and make them liable months after they've moved. Their contracts need serious resolving. I'll keep you posted on what happens in the next few months. UPDATE: I contacted them after receiving their reply below. I received no response.

I had one of the greatest experiences apt shopping with this building. From email exchange to the in person visit, it has been incredibly easy and seamless. I would specifically ask for Melissa to show you units because she is just a breath of fresh air! She has unbelievably great customer service and just made this one of the best experiences ever. They were flexible with my move in date and price range. I am very excited to start my next chapter and be a part of the SCIO community.

Scio is a wonderful place to live! Being a student at Rush, you can't beat the location and being able to walk to class everyday. They really cater towards grad students and medical professionals since they offer 24/7 access to amenities such as the gym and packages. The staff, especially Mellissa, is amazing and will go out of their way to help you no matter what the issue. I moved in right after my unit was renovated so didn't have any issues with construction. If you are looking to live in the medical district you can't beat this apartment complex.

I have been living in this building for 3 years now. Initially it was managed by a different company, which honestly was very mediocre but at least it had some decent folks on staff who were approachable by phone or mail. Then comes Atlantic realty. Initially I thought they looked promising and me and other guests were hopeful they would change things for the better. Then it started. First red flag was my end of the year lease. First time I received my lease, I strongly disagreed with the offensive raise in rent. I went to the office and attempted to speak with someone and what they did was give me an email address. I emailed this person x 3 times and no answer Finally I went downstairs and I told them I was leaving the building and they showered me with apologies, stating they were busy etc. They offered me a better lease and verbally agreed to do something that they did not honor. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought 'OK new people, they need to get their stuff together. Stuff happens'. As the months go things start to pile up. Constantly loosing water, not answering my emails and being terribly hard to reach over the phone as well. It's not worth the price of entry. There honestly weren't any place as nice but you will eventually regret staying there for any period of time. Believe me. TL;DR Why you should not move to this place: 1)unpredictable rent Expect a rent increase every year. Every year like a clock work, you can be sure that price is going up. They might not answer your emails, they might not answer your calls, but you can bet your money (*wink wink*) that it's coming. I have seen 15-20% price increase in 3 years from my original lease. Mind you that does includes the incredibly expensive renovated lease :/ 2)unreachable senior staff. Let me make this clear. There are great people working for this company but the upper management staff is freaking unreachable. Tons of unanswered emails, tons of waiting on hold. 1 out of 5 emails I send get answered. Do you think that is fair for such an obscene rent price? 3) heating and water problems Like hot water or... Any water at all? Well at SCIO water is a commodity. It comes, it goes , no explanation. 901 heating is okay but my friends from 903 have been complaining about heating issues for all winter. 4)everybody regrets it. Unequivocally, by the time you move out from here you will regret it. Yes it's close to all those colleges, it might be close to your job. You will still regret it. SCIO will charge you as much as a Tower downtown would but you will never feel you got your money's worth. Whether it's because of the always increasing rent, the unapproachable staff. 5)they towed my friends car without warning, and then after they did it they denied that they did it. The security and the concierge both denied calling, however it was done at 9pm, there was no one else Update : Review has been updated to reflect a bit now after the renovation. Had a great tour yesterday with a young lady by the name of Mellissa!!!I mean she was by far the greatest I've encountered while looking! But when I first got there I got the worst service from the other lady that was in the office! I waited almost an hour to get help until Mellissa helped me while the other lady just sat there! She was not approachable what so ever.....Told me I can't help I'm busy you have to wait!!!How rude is that!!!!Over all I want to rent here the place is amazing, Mellissa and the security staff was great, but if I have to be around anyone like the other lady I don't want to endure that! Mellissa keep up the good work you rock!!

Spent 2 years here during school. Had an absolutely wonderful living experience here with friendly staff who are responsive to maintainence requests at virtually any hour of the day. Carpeted and rennovated new apartments and secure facilities. Wonderful 24 hr gym, pool, table tennis, and pool table. Only a couple blocks from UIC and Rush. Would recommend to any students/residents!

Ever have an issue? Talk to Mellissa Brown!!!!!!! I have the best experience ever with SCIO at the Medical District. On top of all, is the great staff experience. I had the pleasure of speaking with Mellissa Brown last week regarding an issue I had with the Cube in the lobby. Mellissa is an awesome lady who will surely take a special care of you and you won't approach her and leave but super happy! She instantly solved the problem in a very professional and timely manner way. This is not the first time I approach her and just as expected! Best of the best! Hats off to my Mellissa!

*I wouldn't even tell my worst enemy to live here*. Any review over 1 star must come from a fake account. They lie to get you to sign a lease and then they ignore all your communication. Loud construction starts before 7am every day and includes Saturdays, half the time I turn my sink on it comes out brown, the heat never works, there are bed bugs and cockroaches, and the staff is SO incompetent that nothing gets fixed. Communication is non-existent. Everything falls through. I don't understand how this is a credible management company and I feel like a fool for paying so much to live here.

Scio apartments have a super location on the near west side--they're close to the Medical District, United Center, UIC, Malcolm X College, Rush University,...

Scio apartments have a super location on the near west side--they're close to the Medical District, United Center, UIC, Malcolm X College, Rush University, Little Italy and its wonderful restaurants as well as public transportation. Real positives are the ample green space and nearby parks--perfect for taking a restful break, running, and walking pets in contrast to the concrete jungles of many apartment complexes close to the Loop. Currently, the apartments are being gut-rehabbed, so there is some dust and noise. But the newly renovated apartments and soon-to-be completed amenities are really nice and worth the inconvenience. As a multi-year tenant and healthcare professional, I am extremely impressed with the responsiveness and professionalism of Scio management, maintenance, and the construction crews--they're topnotch!

I love living here at Scio! I feel that this is an amazing place to live for anyone who works within the medical district. I love how I feel very safe I love the office staff Nola, Mellissa, Monica, maintenance staff, the staff over all are is by far the best. I love all of the amenities that this building has to offer and the renovations are coming along perfect! I also feel that the price points to live here aren't over priced. I highly recommend this property I have over all had a great experience!

DO NOT think of moving here, its just a waste of time and an extremely painful experience.

Absolutely terrible. First of all they straight up lie to you. Was told when I moved in construction will be on weekdays at 8am. Well it usually starts around 7:25am including Saturdays. Also they sent an email about doing some repairs on all the shower heads and heating units and fixing/replacing light bulbs which also straight up never happened. While doing construction they broke a water pipe leaving us with no water....one would think to know what is underneath you when you are doing major construction and not accidentally break major water lines. Oh and guess what, two weeks laters they did the SAME THING. Again no water. Not to mention when they actually do plan on shutting off the water to further do repairs on these water pipes it takes more than 3 takes. Also there was a wonderful night where all of a sudden the power turned off in both buildings-and nowhere else on the street (SCIO problem, not power grid problem) And as a sidenote, yes bugs are present (not a lot at all, but more than other places Ive lived)

Mostly UIC students live here because its convenient but other than that this place is a disaster, they renovated their apartments over course there is a huge bump in price and then after paying that amount of high rent you atleast expect good service, well management is terrible, they don't care and more importantly they are themselves figuring out what to do. No one really cares if you need a repair their definition of urgency is little different:D think before moving here, if you are not a student and you don't care about convenience part then save your money.

The reason for 1 star is Google doesn't have 0 star for me to choose T_T I've been watching this place for a while. It's really a nice location to stay if you are a student here. Recently they changed their name (previously Medical District Apartments), renovated their rooms (of course huge raise of rent), switched to a new company and made everything look fancy. But Their service is so poor (as poor as usual) that I ended up with a cancellation of my contract (I kicked myself out, couldn't bear anymore). The management team is extremely unprofessional, rude and inefficient. Check Google/Yelp review before you consider this place, my poor experience made living here a total disaster. For those who rated 4-5 starts, congratulations! You guys are the chosen ones...

I've been living here for about three years, and don't have any major complaints. I'm fairly happy with the administration, both old and new and, while moving for apartment renovations can be inconvenient, the management team does what they can to make it less painful. The newly renovated rooms are also quite nice. The concierge is helpful and always has my packages ready for me. The fact that I'm renewing my lease for a fourth year should say enough. :)

It is modern and beautiful. The new manager Kristin is very nice to offer us help. The service of the team deserves 5 stars!

The project will last anywhere from 18-24 months and it will pretty much resemble a construction site. 2. Being a student at UIC, I certainly loved staying at MDA (Medical District Apts.). It has easy access to public transportation. The front desk and the maintenance guys are very friendly and helpful. Though many have complained about the elevators and air conditioning in the previous reviews; all issues with them have been sorted. But, the walls are very thin, and sometimes can be annoying. If you're a student you'll love MDA, and if you're a family hoping to move in, you'll have to compromise on a few grounds.

Wow, looking over the reviews I can believe we live in the same place. I really like it here. Here are my PROs and CONs (and some neutral observations). I have a one bedroom apartment (a little over 700 sq ft) and have lived here about a year. PROs - Safe (tons of cops in the area, they all eat at Pompeii which is right across the street from the complex) - Great location (right on Taylor street) with tons of bars and restaurants - Close to public transportation (the 9, 157 and UIC bus stops are right next to the building. Only a few blocks to the pink and blue line, the 7, 8 and 12 bus stops) - Close to the Loop (only a couple of stop away by L) - Private parking - Decent (but small) gym on premise - Concierge (7 am - 7 pm, 7 days a week, hours vary on weekends) they will deal with packages, building issues, and other issues) Marta is an absolute doll! - Maintenance on site (whenever I've needed them to fix something it's done in within hours of me reporting it) - Close to the hospitals - Laundry on premise - Close to UIC - Close to a bunch of grocery stores - Friendly staff (they've always been polite and knowledgeable to me) - Outdoor pool (with free to use barbecues/grills) - Big bedroom (mine's about 11 ft by 16 ft) - Tons of closet space (in my one bedroom, I have a small bathroom closet, 2 average closets (4 ft by 2 ft) and a large bedroom closet 8 ft by 2 ft) - Additional storage on site ($10 a month for a 4 ft by 4 ft locker) - Free secure, indoor bike storage - Pet-friendly (you do have to pay pet rent) - Private park (great for kids and pets) - Walls between the apartment are thick concrete so I very rarely hear my neighbors (which is great because they have a baby) - Business office with free wi-fi open to residents (right across the hall from the gym) - Great pest control. I've never seen a bug in my apartment. Pest control stops by every couple of months to do checks - Free coffee in the lobby weekday mornings (it's pretty average coffee so I usually skip it). - The building also does community events: Pizza days, Wine tasting on Valentine's Day, Scavenger hunt on St. Patrick Day, a building meetup at one of the local bars, etc CONs - On the expensive side especially since the apartments are a bit basic - Utilities not included - Pay for laundry (about $1.50 per load both washer and dryer. At least the laundry room is nice looking) - AC is a bit weak (never had an issue with the heat though) - The only internet provider available in the building is Comcast - Parking is expensive (I pay $160 a month to park in the resident parking area) - Only one parking lot is open so finding a covered spot in the winter time is competitive - Ongoing elevator issues (one of them is constantly breaking down). I believe the old company was fired and a new one brought on. They're currently renovating the elevators with an estimated re-opening of May 2015 - Cell phone coverage is spotty in some apartments, so you'll often find people on their cell phones in the halls/lobbies - You can not paint the walls (they offer a painting service but you have to pick from approved paint colors and they charge you something like $100 a wall) On to some observations. While this is an apartment building, a large percentage of the people living here are college students, especially medical students given the buildings close proximity to the medical district. So seeing people hanging out in the lobbies to make phone calls, work on stuff, doing errands in their PJs or just hanging out in the common areas to get away from their roommates is not uncommon. Think of it as an hybrid apartment/ dorm. A large percentage of the populace in the building is from Asia. Traditional Asian food is very aromatic so you will smell it in the halls (and man does it smell delicious!). Location is great. Next to a ton of restaurant, bars, shopping areas, and hospitals. So it will be noisy at times. The building is also smack dab in the middle of a bunch of college and university campuses, expect college kids.

Smell like curry all over the place. the staff is terrible.....terrible terrible terrible and front door lady is i can't even say a word, which can describe her. The apartment building elevator are most of the time is broken. I would say commute a bit but don't waste your money here, too over priced for what they provide you. NOT RECOMMENDED at all. Believe me You WILL REGRET!!!!
