They notified residents that running water wasnt available at 6:15pm via email. Not fun to come home from a long days work, pull out some raw chicken to start making dinner and when you go to wash your hands thats how you find out you dont have running water. I went to the lobby to see if there was anywhere that I could wash my hands and they sent me to the 32nd floor and there wasnt even any soap. Other then the water being shut down about every other week I have had nothing to complain about living here, and usually it is shut down while I am at work.

I have been a tenant at Elm Street Plaza for two years and have genuinely enjoyed my experience thus far and enjoy coming back to my studio from long business trips or late nights out with friends. While the units may be somewhat dated (you get what you pay for), their well built with thick walls so you pretty much never hear your neighbors, also they are well maintained and I specifically have not had any issues with mine. As can be seen by the pictures, my studio is drenched with natural light all summer, which is definitely how I like to kick-off my day. In addition, building maintenance has been excellent and very friendly! As mentioned in previous reviews, there are section 8 residents but I have not had any issues with anyone since moving in here. There are also many professionals that live in this building such as consultants and medical residents. This apartment complex is also ideally located next to grocery stores, plenty of restaurants, the red-line, and lakeshore/beach so there's plenty to do! Definitely give Elm Street Plaza two thumbs up!

My first apartment was here. I was in college, and I only planned to stay there until I finished school and started my career. I loved my time there, and the only home that is as good as the one I made at Elm Street Plaza is the one I have now. I have read many elitist view against "Section 8" residents. First, while many had Section 8 vouchers, Elm Street Plaza is contracted with HUD for providing subsidized apartments, and they get tax breaks for doing so. Before you complain about these residents, take a look at what used to be Cabrini Green. Take a look at many traditional ethnic enclaves in the city. People like you are driving these people out of their own neighborhoods. Some call it gentrification, but I call it urban colonization. When you take over their neighborhoods and cause rents and property taxes to increase, they need somewhere to live. People have the right to raise their children in safe areas with more opportunities. Yes, some residents without home training ruin it for others, but most just want to work and provide for their families in peace. I was a subsidized resident in this building, but most of the residents were unaware because of my mannerisms. I came from a middle-income background, but I wanted to make it on my own while I worked and attended college. I made friends with those paying full rent, struggling mothers and their children, and intelligent people with mental illnesses and/or physical disabilities, like the "Serial Stowaway." These people are fast asleep while people like you stammer and puke in the hallways at 2AM, drunk from a party. Remember this the next time you want to insult Elm Street Plaza or any tenant you think is beneath you.
