Culture

The arts and culture are very important to the people of Boulder, and they do an excellent job of supporting community cultural institutions like the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra. Boulder also has a thriving theatre community, which includes Boulder’s Dinner Theatre. The company specializes in putting on Broadway-quality musicals that are perfect for family outings. Certainly one of the most prestigious annual events is the Colorado Shakespeare Festival that takes place each summer. More than half a century old, it is regarded as one of the best summer Shakespeare festivals in the country. Memorial Day weekend brings runners from across the country Boulder, as the Bolder Boulder 10K race takes place. For a more relaxed event, you should visit the Boulder Creek Festival. The banks of Boulder Creek become lined with artists, artisans, food vendors and performers during a weekend in May each year. The closing of the festival is marked with the always popular Rubber Duck race.

Shopping

Downtown Boulder has an absolute smorgasbord of shopping options for you to enjoy. Best of all, the vast majority of the shops are contained within a very small area. This makes it the perfect venue for taking a stroll and enjoying the day while window-shopping past everything from high-end boutiques to second hand stores. Pearl Street in particular is not to be missed, as it features a pedestrian walkway that makes it the perfect venue to shop by foot. Twenty Ninth Street is an open air shopping complex that features Nordstrom Rack and a Macy’s as anchor stores.

Sports

Local sports are mostly restricted to the college teams. The Colorado Buffaloes play out of Colorado University. The athletics program is quite strong. The football team is an NCAA Division 1 team that currently competes in the Pacific 12. While there is no professional sports team in Boulder currently, most of the city strongly supports the professional teams housed in Denver. Usually, there are several bus trips that head to Denver with a large load of people anytime one of the pro teams that make their home in that city play.
