Emerson College

Emerson has four dining areas on-campus; one is a dining hall and the other three are cafes. They leave a lot to be desired, notably with their hours--only one (the Max cafe) stays open past 10pm. However, there are literally dozens of restaurants within blocks of Emerson, including three Dunkin’ Donuts locations. City Place, a food court on campus, is the most popular place for students to buy food, and features restaurants like D’Angelos, California Pizza Kitchen, and Crazy Dough’s Pizza, to name a few. Students can even use ECCash, which is money they can put on their student ID, at City Place. When Emerson students are booted off campus, usually after sophomore year, where they live depends entirely on their budget. Students with a higher budget live within walking distance in neighborhoods like Beacon Hill, Back Bay, Financial District, or elsewhere in downtown. Students with lower budgets move out to Allston, Brookline, Mission Hill, Cambridge, or Somerville. And students who want to find the lowest rental costs in Boston head to Dorchester, Roxbury, or East Boston, neighborhoods that are dirt cheap but also the most dangerous in the city.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
