DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! From start to finish, my time at The Standard was the worst rental experience of my life. When I approached them while searching for a new apartment in Boone (before The Standard had even finished erecting their buildings) I was assured, pre-lease signing, that the building would be completed. When I told them I would consider it while pursuing other options, I was hounded by their predatory sales team with texts, phone calls, and emails daily until I finally caved. But they had assured me the building would be finished, after all, right? Wrong. I was stuck in a hotel room for the entirety of one semester; being promised I would have an apartment the next month, when that never came until 5 and a half months after the start of my lease. When I was finally able to move into my unit, I was greeted by hallways reminiscent of a prison, flickering lights, DISGUSTING hallways and floors that spent most time covered in dog feces and urine. Walking from my unit to the parking deck became a trial of careful steps and held noses. The smell was ungodly the majority of the time. The units themselves are not much better. The "furniture" provided is minimal and cheap and the cabinet doors would fall off for seemingly inexplicable reasons. In addition to this, I was told by their sales team that I would be paying a pet DEPOSIT that would cover any damages caused by my pet, only to find out later that it was a nonrefundable PET FEE that DOES NOT cover the damages of anything. And when I called to report the tv my cat broke in our time their (they day it happened several months prior to my move out), I was told management would get back to me. They never did. When I confronted them with this, they claimed to have not record of my initial call. The management are skilled only when it comes to being elusive. Which, given the way this business conducts itself, is not entirely surprising. It should also be noted that the electric keys fail constantly, despite taking measures to keep it from getting fried by other electronics. You are not a resident to this company. You are a dollar sign. They DO NOT care about you or your well-being. The only STANDARD being set by this company is one of despicable and morally bankrupt business practices. For your sake, please, DO NOT RENT AT THIS PROPERTY.

Most recently I was charged $45 to clean the dark spots in the entry way of my one bedroom apartmentI am the cleanest person I know and not only vacuumed but STEAM CLEANED every week. They also tried to say I didnt turn in my keys (another $125) when I have the paperwork saying I did. They never respond to maintence requests. The parking deck is a mess. It is supposed to be private parking but the gates are always broken and thus my car was hit twice in there and I parked in the safest place possible and you STILL had to pay for parking (the only place in Boone where you have to pay for parking). The hallways look like a frat party bathroom and the grounds are atrocious. Staff is rude and unacoomodating and their employee turnover rate is so high (for obvious reasons) you never get the same people to help. They had sprinkler lines burst twice and flood the building this year as well as power outages in the parking deck on a recurring basis. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. This is also the most expensive complex around. These are commonly held opinion ask anyone in Boone. Idk who the people are who gave them 5 stars but they are NOT representative of the norm.

Although on the website it has a "covered car garage" as an amenity, it is an additional $25 a month. They do not have enough parking spaces to accommodate all of their tenants. They waste parking spaces for "retail parking" even though they are never in use. Everyone who works there are clueless and are no help at all. Do not let the pictures on the website fool you, because they are not even of this apartment complex. These apartments are a scam and are NOT worth anyones time or money.

This place is DISGUSTING. I mean seriously. I had heard about dogs PEEING and pooping in the elevators, hallways, and in the parking deck but didn't believe it until I saw it. The hallways remind me of a jail and each floor has a distinct smell, and not in a good way. There is an insane amount of cracks in the walls and everything is constantly breaking. If you even think about moving here, you need to walk the grounds first and then make your decision. If you dont, sorry to say that you'll be REALLY disappointed, disgusted, and overall repulsed.

DO NOT LIVE HERE. If I could leave a zero star review I would. I pay almost $700 a month PLUS parking. This apartment complex is the "standard" for nothing. The hallways, elevators, pool/hot tub, and parking deck is always disgusting. Maintenance is always coming into your apartment randomly to "check" things (that have already been checked) sometimes without warning. (As a female who could have been asleep, changing, or in the shower I do/did NOT feel safe in my own apartment with two male maintenance workers coming in unannounced.) They do have a coffee machine (that is always broken or without coffee beans, creamer, sugar, and beverage holders), two study rooms (for 600+ residence), and a dishwasher in your apartment (that doesn't actually wash anything even though they are supposedly brand new). Also, don't think for a second your car is safe in this parking deck- there have been multiple instances when friend's cars have been hit and run, one of my roommates car was booted (even though she had proper identification), and the gate is always broken and management doesn't do a thing. In short, if you like to throw money away, this is the place for you!!! (I also never leave negative reviews but I don't want anyone to get stuck in a lease like I did.)

I would love for management to comment back and help me understand why as a paying resident, I am not allowed to park on the floor of my apartment complex that I live on, yet you can sell parking to the public when there are already not enough parking spaces for residents. The promised "retail" stores are unfinished rooms of rubble, but good thing 20% of the deck is being reserved for them. The hallways and building are constantly trashed and everything is broken. The maintenance crew is amazing but can not keep up with the inconsiderate people that live here. Catching a bus is close to impossible as "The Standard" is the last bus stop and the buses will always be full. Amenities are portrayed completely wrong online. Be prepared to pay more to treat your headaches than you will overpaying on your rent.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. This is the absolute WORST place in boone to live. Everything in my apartment has broken due to how cheaply it was made then they MAKE RESIDENTS PAY FOR IT! I do mean everything, from the windows in my apartment to the washing machine everything has broken. The common areas (hallways, elevators, parking garage) are always filthy, and they removed all side entrances which for students is the worst after walking back from a hard class. On top of all of this. If you are a PAYING resident who PAYS to park here, the gates are literally always broken and now ON TOP of all that they will put irremovable stickers on your windows even when you park where you are supposed to. The maintenance and front desk people are great. It is whoever is coming up with these absurd ideas (make residents pay for their mistakes and ruin their cars windows!!!!). I make sure to tell everyone I know to never even consider living here. Hopefully this will reach some poor souls before they sign their lease. I will never do business with this company again. AWFUL experience!

I would never recommend this apartment building or rent here ever again! The staff have been completely useless at preventing incidents, keeping up with documents for your lease, and keeping residents accurately informed. My apartment was flooded by a pipe burst during extremely cold weather. I was called and informed my unit had minimal water damage...when in fact my unit had been flooded through my ceiling and walls. I had personal property damage they failed to inform me about and proceeded to have to do major maintenance (removing walls, carpet, etc.) to my apartment. The cleanliness of the shared areas (hallways, elevators, etc.) are HORRIBLE! It takes them forever to clean or do maintenance. The parking gates are constantly broken. To be paying this high of a rent in BOONE, this complex should be as it was advertised...a clean, secure building with additional amenities. The only plus side is I love my unit, the size is perfect and I've enjoyed the new appliances and granite countertops. If they could stop turning over management, perhaps they could find a management team to prevent issues before they arise so they won't look so incompetent to residents.

Although, the elevator is RARELY in working operation. Currently its been broken for two weeks and apparently it will be "looked at tomorrow" but I won't be holding my breath. Maybe the fact that it leaked with rainwater for months when I initially moved in isn't helping its cause, but no one seemed concerned about that then! Having a young dog and living on the fourth floor without an elevator is not what I pay an exorbitant amount in rent for each and every month.

So far I have had a wonderful experience at The Standard! The staff is so nice and helpful! Taylor gave me my tour and was able to answer all my questions and gave my mom a tour when she was in town! She has always been available to answer my questions anytime I have had one durning this process! I can not wait to live here and use the amazing amenities this upcoming year! Also, the doors are on the inside of the building which makes me feel a lot safer living in a studio and gives my parents a piece of mind!

Do not rent at the Standard. The units are incredibly overpriced for uncomfortable furniture, cheap appliances, and amenities that are constantly broken. The hallways are constantly filthy, including alcohol, pee, vomit, and one week there was even blood throughout the hallway. It constantly smells horrendous in the hallways and stairwells. I've had to get my dishwasher repaired 4 times, smoke alarms twice, shower and door once within my first 3 months of living in this complex. Parking costs an additional $25 a month, yet the parking gate is constantly broken, so anyone can park there even without having a parking spot. This causes my to have to park on the 7th level of the deck when I live on the second floor. In addition, the deck is very poorly designed and is a big risk for accidents and damaged cars (mine has been hit and keyed since living here). In additional, they assigned a roommate to my unit without letting my roommate or I know beforehand, and when we told them they did not follow their contract, they were very rude and played dumb. The only decent part about living here is the location close to campus

There is always "something" happening at the Standard trust me. From drunks vomiting and pissing everywhere to signs and walls being smashed. Bless their maintenance team for putting up with it all they are actually super nice. Good luck dealing with their always confused staff too. But please dont live here. I've been sleeping on a friend's couch since the first month I moved in because I could not stand it anymore. Worst mistake I've ever made. And to top it all off I received an email 1-24-18 that someone took their own life on the premises. With all due respect to the family, I feel as though it's something that future renters should know. This place is just absolute chaos.

NEVER live here!! The standard portrays itself as a great, clean, well-maintained, new apartment complex for App State Students. For over $800 a month you get terrible management, disgusting hallways, elevators, and parking decks. Not to mention that the majority of the time, the lights are out in the parking deck and no cameras so when people hit your car, it is just your fault. The parking deck is a situation in itself, the gates are constantley broke, which is the best because that is when it is easiest to get in and out, the gates are so slow and never detect our parking stickers that it causes traffic. The spots are way too small that no one can actually fit in them so you just park wherever you want basically. Causing cars to get hit left and right. Not only is there filthy trash literally covering the parking lot but there is also glass that never gets taken care of. My car not only got hit in the parking lot last semester but I had to run over glass in the middle of the parking deck causing my car to have two flat tires. There is always shattered bottles in the elevator hallway along with dog feces which also extend to the elevators and hallways. Oh also, there is only one working elevator. ALL the exit signs in the building are dangling from the ceiling and constantly swing back and fourth. I actually had a new office worker attack me saying I hit the sign which was making it move, little does the new guy know, the sign has been broken since august and it dangles in front of the air vent which blows air at it and makes it move. I literally hate this place and hate the living environment. I laughed at the ladies face for asking me if I would renew. Who would live at a place like that again. It is a joke and so not worth the money.

Living here has been a HUGE mistake and I absolutely cannot wait to move out. The staff (other than the maintenance crew and the students that work at the front desk) is terrible. They are so unhelpful and unprofessional, and honestly should be replaced by corporate. The rooms are small, the provided furniture is so uncomfortable, and the hallways look like an asylum. If you enjoy dirty hallways covered in literal dog urine, beer, throw up, and trash then you will LOVE it here. Cigarettes are always in the stairwells, as are the occasional homeless person!! People frequently try and rip the doors off the hinges to try and get in, when honestly I'm shocked that anybody would ever want to get into this place so badly. The courtyards are gross and unkempt, the walls are thin and the hallways echo which is even better when fire alarms go off in the middle of the night!! Save yourself a ton of money and do not live here. But if you want to save money on parking God knows there are plenty of spaces that some people pay $25 a month to park in!!

The management here is absolutely not helpful. Every time you ask them a question they send THE SAME EXACT ANSWER over and over and redirect you to a new person to talk to just so that you can receive the same response that does not help the situation. An example of this is the $25 a month that I was charged for parking for 11 months while the gates and security were not installed, and therefore I could not find a spot to park because the whole town of Boone new this and was parking out of pure convenience. When asking the standard to address this problem they NATURALLY responded with some bs answer basically saying it was their fault and that they would try to have them down in a few days.....YET THEY STILL AREN'T DOWN AND DON'T STAY DOWN FOR MORE THAN A FEW DAYS. Aside from this, if you enjoy beer and throw up in the hallways, broken exit signs, fire alarms going off at 4 in the morning, your pet breaking out in a rash because of the pesticides they spray in the courtyard, dust in the stairwells, broken doors to the outside so that the homeless can sleep in the stairwells and leave their pillows (yall im not kidding), and condescending people that just want your money then choose the standard to live at. (ps. the maintenance staff are the only people that are actually of good character here but simply cant keep up with the demands of this job because of how awful the building is).

Because of that, most of the reviews are from people who have never stepped foot in this building. I have never paid so much money for "high quality" apartments and living, and received such LOW QUALITY appliances that constantly break and trashed hallways that are never cared for or cleaned. The manager is condescending and will try and make you feel stupid if you go to her with concerns. The staff never responds if you have a question that they don't feel like answering. I find something new that is wrong with this place every day because the building process was so rushed. I PROMISE you that you will instantly regret living here. It is not worth your money. Sorry that my name is so unofficial, but I would rather not receive a phone call tomorrow morning bribing me to take my post down.

I do not want to pay a ridiculous transfer fee of 250$ to another unit, which is the only solution customer service has provided. Do not understand why they cannot actually try and offer a solution other then asking me for money. Well first things first, besides the general hell that The Standard as an organization gave us before we were even able to move in, they weren't very flexible with my move in time so I had to miss work and drive 2 hours back to Boone to move my things from the Cottages to the Standard. Upon arrival, I was asked to submit a document detailing whether everything in my apartment was in order so I went to my designated room and looked around. I found that my shower had a leak in it, so I wrote that down and was told that it would be fixed. Fast forward to the end of April. The maintenance man, much to my surprise finally knocks on my door. Now I know what you're thinking. He did a good job coming to fix it. And of course, under normal circumstances this would have been the case. But here's the kicker. I submitted that work order the day after I moved in to the Standard, WHICH WAS IN DECEMBER. It literally took them five months to come and fix my leaky shower. Add to that the disgusting hallways, the cops being called to the premises almost every weekend due to the very responsive Standard team that is supposed to keep noise levels down, and to the fact that there is never a parking spot to park in thanks to their parking gates being broken all year, allowing anyone to come on in and park where they felt like, and the Standard as an overall package is a wonderful steal. If you're looking for a place that only takes five months to fix your shower, a place that only answers their phone half of the time, a place that doesn't know how to answer half of the questions that they are asked, then The Standard is the perfect place for you. Sign up now and you'll be able to pay a little over 700 dollars a month, not including the 25 dollar parking fee and the 20-30 electricity fee, and if you sign up today you'll be able to watch as they try to scramble to build your apartment while you live in it. If you like paying for amenities that are not yet BUILT, then come to the Standard. Unfortunately, I won't be able to greet you when you arrive because I have found a far better place to live.
I love all the amenities that The Standard has to offer! The best part is having access to a gym 24 hours a day.

Not to mention the fact I was in a hotel for over 4 months. Now their phone lines and internet are down at the leasing office. Do yourselves a favor and stay as far away from this company and building as you possibly can.
