Save your money. Living in your car would be better than this place. Most of the people here are on some sort of drug, and are rude as hell. Cant even stand to be in my own apartment because there is constant partying above me and next to me, when you try to talk to them about it, they bascially laugh in your face and turn their music up louder. The management here is also a joke. My lease ends in 2 months, and i cannot be more than ready to leave this pathetic excuse of an apartment complex.. oh yeah, and there are bugs everywhere. Brown recluse spiders, roaches, and i even got accused of causing a bed bug infestation after being here a month. When i told the "bug inspector" about the roaches and spiders, he didnt even bat an eye. I could give 0 stars. I would.

Just keep looking. Trust me. I only needed a place to stay for 6 months and thought I would find a cheap apartment that allows pets, had a short-term lease option, and was near Missouri State campus. I wish I would have just paid more money to stay elsewhere because this place was disgusting. There is no fan in the bathroom which caused black mold to grow everywhere. The walls are paper thin so you will have no privacy. If you live on the bottom floor you will hear every step your neighbor makes. Everything is out-of-date or broken. Everyone living there are on some sort of drug and there are constant screaming and yelling coming from other apartments. The cops have been in our parking lot or in the neighborhood almost every other week since I moved in. No one picks up their dogs poo, so you step in doggie poo every other day. Also, there are fleas outside in the grass near building D so it's impossible to keep them off your dog. Oh, and just get used to having cockroaches everywhere because no one will do anything about it. The laundry room is always flooding or being used. There are nice people that live here but they were in the same situation as me and felt the same way about the apartments. For every normal person you get 10 crazy ones. Additionally, when you call the office the secretary is not friendly or helpful what-so-ever. This isn't necessarily important - it just really bothers me how rude she is. Honestly, it's not even that cheap. So if you are looking at this place vs. a place thats $100 or more, just go with another place and pay more. It's not worth it to live here - trust me.

I still live here. I can't leave until my lease expires. Recent events have caused a complete turnover in management and the turnover is for the worse. We lost an awesome apartment manager who actually cared about the tenants. My bathroom ceiling leaked, twice, and the ceiling still has not been repainted so I have an ugly brown stain above my shower. In the summer, cockroaches are seen in the parking lot (I know, I see them near my door). I've informed the office but since they aren't in the building, nobody seems to care. The spiders are awful! I keep my apartment clean, but the spiders come in anyway and I've suffered two separate spider bites that required antibiotics to heal. Some of the upstairs apartments have wood floors and I can hear every footstep my upstairs neighbor makes. At least he's apologetic about it. The windows are single pane and the door doesn't seal well-I can actually feel the wind coming through them in the winter! Again, I've mentioned it, but the office doesn't seem to care. I've had a charge on my rent for two dollars and change, but without explanation, so until I'm told what it is for, I'm not paying it. Yes, I asked but never got an answer. Laundry gets stolen from the laundry room, security is a joke (my moped, secured to the building with a cable was stolen), I had drug dealers living next door to me, but they were asked to move out. Parking is a nightmare when at capacity, however I don't anticipate that to be a problem much longer since this complex is becoming a less than desirable place to live. Bottom line? Don't bother unless you don't plan on staying here long. It IS close to MSU, and has a pool, but that's about all of the good points I can find at this point.

We found the perfect house to rent. We turned in out applications and were given our move in date and everything. We called every single day checking the status of our application. All our leases at our other apartments/houses were ending because we knew when our lease was supposed to start. Every time we called to check the status of our applications, they were either to busy to talk to us and didn't return our calls or said it hadn't been sent through yet. Finally, four days before our "move in date" we received a call that the house we wanted was given to someone else. Confused, we asked if our applications hadn't been approved and again, no answer. Frustrated, my future roommate and I went there to see them in person. The lady who had been helping us was again, too busy to see us. We asked the "manager" why our applications were denied. He informed us that he approved our applications the day we turned them in. Yet, we didn't get the house or even an explanation as to why not. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE. NEVER go through Southwood Properties for anything at all.

Here are the facts: -Small living space -No insulation -Outdated wall heater/AC -Fan-less bathroom -Acoustic nightmare, expect no privacy Very poorly organized business people run these units. Maintenance is terrible, I never received screens for the bedroom or bathroom windows. They are businessmen though, just wave money in front of their faces to catch their attention. It's freezing in here now. As soon as the heater is shut off, the room ices over again. If you are going to sign up for a place here, opt for a top floor unit. Any other unit will bring the most tremendous creaks and crashes from what sound like blundering elephants above your studio. Don't lease unless the location is absolutely necessary and there are no alternatives.

aweful aweful aweful!!!!! I only lived there for about half my lease before I ended it early because they were so bad!!!! about a week and a half before I moved in I put down my 300 dollar deposit because I was told if I didn't the apartment I wanted would not be available and then when I went to go sign the lease the day before I was supposed to move in I was told my deposit was no longer 300 but over 1000 dollars!!!! And of course if I didn't I would lose the 300 completely because the 7 day period where you could back out and get your deposit back had ended 2 days before!!!! Unbelievable. I was then told I would get the deposit back (minus the 300) a month and a half later but when that time came, and every month after that, I was told I would get it back the next month after that with some bogus reason as to why. I never got any of it back. Randy was (and maybe still is) the landlord and he was the biggest jerk of all and was also very creepy. Randy lied repeatedly about the deposit. He would tell me one thing and then when in front of his bosses and I he would say something completely different. Then when I would correct him he would say "no I never said that" repeatedly, I guess until he really believed it. If you move in here, expect to have A LOT of last second pop up costs, and not cheap ones either. DOn't expect to get ANY of your deposit back and make sure you have at least a thousand dollars set aside for pop up costs that are told to you the day before the deadline.
