Find a Reno Apartment

Reno has a reputation. To many people, it is another, smaller version of cities like Las Vegas and Atlantic City. However, this city of over 230,000 residents holds a few tricks up its sleeve besides the obvious tourist traps.

One of the most important non-tourist oriented institutions in the city is the University of Nevada, Reno. This campus is actually the oldest university in Nevada, and has more than 16,000 students attend annually. This well respected college brings many new residents to town each year.

When to Search

With relatively high vacancy rates, it's never all that hard to find a place in Reno. If you give yourself six to eight weeks to find an apartment, you should be able to find suitable accommodations at any time throughout the year.

Staying in the Know

Reno landlords want to know who they're renting to. You should be able to show them either a confirmation of enrolment for university, or have a letter from an employer. Being able to prove that you're either working or studying full time will go a long way to getting you in the door.

Life in Reno

Transportation

The Reno RTC RIDE public transportation system is a great way to get around town. With all day passes available for just $4, it provides an affordable way to get around the city even if you're not familiar with it. If you have a car though, Reno is easy to drive in. McCarran Boulevard circles the city and makes it easy to get anywhere in short order.

Where to play

Of course, the most famous attraction in Reno is the gaming, but there are many other activities to keep you entertained. In the summer, watersports on the nearby lakes provide a great way to cool off, and in the winter there are 8 major ski resorts and several additional smaller ones all within a short drive of the city. Reno is also the closest large center to Black Rock City, home of the infamous Burning Man festival.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
