ONLY MOVE HERE IF IT'S A LAST RESORT AND THE ONLY APARTMENT YOU CAN AFFORD. Believe me, it's an appealing place from viewing online and the tour you receive upon arrival. They show you the pool, the workout facility, the washers/dryers, and it looks nice at first. Like a nice quiet place, that's affordable. But, it's everything opposite. Like previous reviews, the pool wasn't open until the last week of August. Within a week of being open the water was green, and looked like river water. They never explained what the cause was, but shut it down after two weeks of it being green. I paid rent on time, and most months earlier than when it was due. But, I would also receive notices for arbitrary charges. Then when I would call the main office they would claim it was a mistake on their end and they would take the charge away. Also, for 9 out of the 12 months I lived there, the tenant next to me had the cops called 3 times. All for domestic disputes. He also passed out from drug use and left his stove on, and the Fire Dept. had to axe his door down. Which, I understand, is apart of renting, but when the management team takes absolutely no action to resolve this issue, or even force the tenant to move out, it makes a paying customer question whether the rent is worth the experience.
Once I finished the lease and moved out, I was sent a bill for $220.00. Management claimed it was for cleaning expenses. They said they had to vacuum the carpet and wash the walls and throw away a few cords I left. I asked management if every apartment was cleaned out after a tenant left (vacuuming, washing walls, etc.) to prepare for the next tenant, and they told me that if the previous tenant cleaned it well enough, they didn't clean the apartment. Also, I asked what the name of the third party company they partner with to clean the apartments (The company that bills the apartment agency), so I could ask about exactly what I was being charged for. The manager refused to give me any information. She also refused to give me any information to her superior managers as well. So there was no route in which I could gather more information, or ask for an account of every dollar being charged. I typically would have no problem paying a charge for something I had done. But when I've received multiple arbitrary charges in the past, that were resolved as a "management mistake", it would only make sense to question the charge now. But the big question is, what kind of management team leaves it up to the last tenant to make sure the apartment is ready for the next tenant? I've never had an experience as such, with any place of business for that matter. I work for a place of business that constantly pushes the idea that customer service is the number one priority. At 100 Chevy Chase, it is the complete opposite.
This is not a review to trash the apartment complex. This is a review to warn anyone thinking about moving in here. Shop around more before settling here. And if you find somewhere that is more expensive, maybe at the high end of your budget, go with that apartment complex. I promise, the extra money is worth it compared to the service and issues you'll have from this management team. I currently live at The Racquet Club, and have friends that live at The Veridian, Merrick Place, and a few others. I, nor my friends, have ever experienced anything as such. The Racquet Club is roughly $200 more a month, but compared to 100 Chevy Chase, they're worth $500 more a month.
At the end of the day, let 100 Chevy Chase be the last option if you're looking for an apartment. Otherwise, choose somewhere else, based on customer experience, and actually receiving the amenities you were promised upon signing. Hope this helps anyone currently shopping around!
