Biola tries their hardest to keep students fed with a dining hall/food court area, a cafe, a coffee house, and a grab and go style shop. There’s a fair amount of variety, certainly more than you could find at most schools. But with so many appealing restaurants in the area, it’s easy for students to be lured away from campus by the aromatic scents and five star reviews. Los Angelos is a great culinary city, and the food quality reverberates throughout the metropolitan area all the way to La Mirada and its neighbors. Students are tempted to go out every night of the week, but usually settle for one or two meals out on the weekend. Moving off campus can be liberating and an ultimate sign of independence for students. Some of them don’t just move off of Biola’s campus, but out of La Mirada altogether. They usually settle in a nearby area like Norwalk, Fullerton, or Buena Park, to give a few examples. Is it worth it? Well, all three areas are within a 15 minute drive of campus, which is very manageable. As for apartment costs, Norwalk is a couple hundred cheaper on average, Buena Park is about a hundred dollars less expensive per month, and Fullerton is around the same cost as La Mirada. Depending on where you look, you could easily find a cheaper and better apartment in one of these areas.
