As a general statement the staff are friendly, helpful, and quick to respond. Maintenance was great and always quickly fixed issues. However the amount of administrative fees and hidden costs and their unwillingness to bend, likely because of corporate policies left a bitter taste in my mouth. First of all I took over a lease from a tenant who had never moved in and had to pay a $250 fee that the previous tenant had already paid. From there I was charged for parking that I asked not to have. I was charged a shut off fee for my electric, a 20$ fee every month for using online payment, and then had issues with the online portal. The apartment was barely better than the on campus housing and its location is the only thing that even came close to warranting the price point. I would only recommend this is you're willing to throw away money for quality that is no where near the other apartments in the area.

My cousin was supposed to move in with her friend to the Commons Bridge 3bedroom/2bath. They have paid the deposit, signed all papers on time, and even met with the staff on multiple occasions.. however, over the span of several weeks she's received some ridiculous notices from them. Here are just some of the stories... 1. did not sign any sort of agreement in the first place, 2. signed for a 1 bedroom, 3. will not be assigned to live with her friend. So now... she is told that she must live with 2 random roommates or move with her friend to the Commons which is not pet friendly. The staff has apologized for their untrained workers and the whole issue.... They are extremely disorganized and I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The commons is a commonly known joke by the locals. My roommates and I are locked out almost weekly because our key stops working or our lock just wont work. Then if we are not locked out our lock wont even lock so then people can push our door and let themselves in our house which happened and a HOMELESS lady let herself in. After telling the office about this problem they still refuse to change our lock because it is too expensive. then we live on the bottom floor and people do not know how to drive and we have woken up to 3 cars less than a foot from our window about to wreck into our apartment. Then one of our cars got shoved down the hill, one of our cars got the mirror bashed off, then another person stomped my car to the point i couldnt use my sunroof. i asked if they would put cameras towards the street and they said they couldnt afford to put cameras up for our security. this place isnt worth it. please go live somewhere else so you can have peace of mind.

I have been living at the Commons on Bridge this year and intend on living at a different Commons apartment complex in the coming year. As I had toured many other complexes prior to choosing to live at the Commons, the Commons stood out more than any of the nearby apartments. I immediately felt welcome and a part of the strong community-based environment that the staff and residents encompass. Any questions or concerns I've come across have been quickly solved by the friendly staff. Overall, I would highly recommend living at any of the Commons complexes.

One of the worst places i have ever lived. The amenities are mediocre, the carpet is coming up in many places, the walls are paper thin. There are so many odd things wrong with this apartment complex. Somehow it is always too hot or too cold. Much of the metal furniture is rusted. The dishwasher and ice machine have never worked. The worst part, in my opinion, is that the internet download speed is horrendous. I can't do homework at my apartment most days. If there is a single other option available to you, take it.

The WiFi is passable at best, except in my room, where it was outright horrible. And, as a rancid cherry on top, they charged all of us for issues with the carpet. Issues that we had reported multiple times, and which they never adequately handled. It was a great way to thank us for renewing our leases. Live somewhere else.

Although The Commons at Knoxville are not the absolute worst apartments you could live in, I strongly advise against it. In the three months I have lived here, I have been locked out four or five times, & not because of my own fault, my key just simply quit letting me into the apartment. They are supposed to have a 24 hour on call personnel, however, I called both maintenance & the individual in charge of lockouts & did not get a call back for over an hour. I have brought up the issue of me being locked out an unreasonable number of times to the front desk & no one seems to really care. Sorry this was long, just very unhappy with this apartment complex and do not recommend living here.

If I could give this apartment a lower rating I would. When I first moved into this apartment, which was 3 years ago I noticed that the apartment was made very cheap. The amenities were old and raggedy, and needed an upgrade. Also the carpet was really cheap and did not look as clean as possible. The only reason I stayed in this apartment was because the location was walking distance from school. Throughout my 3 years living here there have been 3 different people who have moved in and out. Not once during those move outs did they every clean the carpet, or remove it to have fresh carpet for the future resident. My roommates and I always cleaned the floor and the apartment. The entire time I was there, there were always problems with our dishwasher, the toilet overflowing and other issues. I tried to speak to the manager over two years about the dishwasher, and they would only take a message. I even went in person, and they still would not help. I tried to get the dishwasher replaced and all they would do was trying to run a cycle on the dishwasher to drain it and nothing else. I recently moved out of this apartment, and they are trying to charge $300 per person for carpet replacement. I know this can't be right because the carpet is the same that it was from the beginning, and a few months before move out I even requested for the carpet to be clean, and I doubt that was done. It probably was not done so they could try to cheat us out of money. I am not the only one who has experienced them trying to charge outrages prices for carpet replacement. (this occurs many times) I know I will be contacting their corporate office, EDR, to explain how the horrible management is doing over this apartment. I definitely will not accept paying for something that was not in bad shape to a place that doesn't try to fix things the proper way when you have a lease with them because they try to make you pay for them once your lease is over.

The staff cheats in the begining; they lie; they don't tell all the truth; they hide the critical details. So, be aware, prospective students. They charge for the parking but never tell where the parking spot will be and do not provide any details or map for the location of the parking spot. I drove 30 min around the complex but could not find the parking lot. They are looting the parents and, in fact, an old parent like me might end up in a hospital.

Me and my two roommates came in with a un cleaned apartment because they felt bad that our staff roommate (who already lived there) would have to pay money for the damages she left. The cleaning person told us it was our issue to clean and was not her place to help.. The people in the office were rude and not friendly they did not make the commons feel welcoming. The amenities they promise are not all there and if you forget your key and are locked out the on call is very un reliable.. the showers were moldy and the carpets all stained and dirty. I would not recommend this place to anyone. My roommates and I lived at the Grand Ave location and had the worst experience! The apartment was not cleaned at all prior to us moving in, the bathtubs were moldy, and the carpet was a wreck. They didn't offer us new carpet until parents complained and we had already gotten our stuff settled. The maintenance people are hit or miss; some are awesome and some are rude. When we complained about our bathtubs THE FIRST DAY WE ARRIVED, we were told it was "our problem" and given advice on how to clean it. If you live on the first floor, no natural light can come into the apartment and it's like living in a cave. NOT WORTH THE MONEY. I recommend paying more for expensive housing rather than choosing the commons because they're cheaper. THEY ARE CHEAPER FOR A REASON!!!!

This is my second year with the Commons and I'd say for the most part I've enjoyed my time here. The first year I stayed at the Commons on Knoxville on 19th and Forrest. Decent location. Kind of far from campus but also less noisy compared to their other locations. The apartments are pretty small but furnished with the basics. I signed my lease kind of late so couldn't get an assigned parking spot but I rarely had a problem finding street parking right by my apartment. One major complaint I had was that my room was next to this utility closet thing and for months there was a constant awful beeping coming from it. I kept calling them and asking them to fix it. Sometimes they would come after a few days but it would start again a day later. It was a nightmare and it didn't seem like they tried very hard to solve the problem. Ended up having to spend a lot of nights at my boyfriend's place at Evolve because we just couldn't handle the 24/7 beeping. This year I'm staying at the Commons on Bridge (formerly The Renaissance). The apartments are much nicer although they do not come furnished. The garage parking is very convenient even if it is $50 a month (more worth it than the $50 for outside parking at their other locations). The complex is pretty nice and is pet friendly. The location is very convenient if you have classes by the hill and we're also a short walk from downtown. The balcony is definitely a nice addition. I think the staff at the Commons are very friendly and willing to help. The maintenance staff generally responds pretty quickly (feels like they're faster with the Commons on Bridge than they were for Commons at Knoxville) Your lease also comes with a few amenities such as the gym at the office location. Granted it's not a very big gym by any means. It has 2 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, free weights, and a couple of other strength building machines. If you ask them for a card you can get 24 hr access to the gym so that's nice. They also offer free printing and tanning at the office location.

living at The Commons Knoxville has been the greatest living experiences I have encountered over the last five years. I have considered The Commons to be a place that I can truly call my home- The staff will go above and beyond and will answer any injuries you may have. They genuinely care about the well-being of their residents. I want to give a special thank you to Cathy who has been a tremendous help to me. She has answered all of my questions in detail and will always put a smile on my face. Maintenance has been quick to fix our requests that we have had throughout the semester and will always complete the day of- The location is close to campus (the library) and not too far rom the downtown area. It is a safe area to walk to and from campus. I would definitely recommend living here and I hope you enjoy The Commons as much as I did! A huge thank you to the staff for making my move from California to Tennessee a easy transition!!

I love the hotel keys?? They are a huge relief when i have a ton of groceries. I am super surprised by some of these reviews, it's like some of yall havent lived downtown long. This is my 3rd apartment complex to stay and i just renewed this semester. Yeah these are kind of old but the resources are fantastic. I love the management! they are super understanding,if you're a reasonable person clearly,and the office is always happy to see me and my roommates! i dont have anything to say about rent because this is literally the cheapest place I've found or lived.

The Commons looks very nice from the outside with clean landscaping and well paved parking lots. I live in a 4B/2B and my apartment came fully furnished with high quality and comfortable chairs and a couch in the living room. All of the the kitchen amenities are up to date and there is conveniently a very nice washer and dryer in the apartment. The rooms are plenty big and come with a large full size bed and a much bigger closet than expected. The location to campus is amazing and you do not have to use a vehicle to get to class. If you do not want to take the 10 min walk to campus, there is a bus stop a block away from the apartment. The office and staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, ready and willing to answer any questions. I would certainly recommend The Commons over other apartments I have visited in the surrounding area.

The Commons at Knoxville is the perfect choice for students who have never experienced living outside of their parents home or the dorms. The step into adulthood that is taken when moving into a place of your own is huge and you need to feel comfortable. Any of the Commons' complexes would be a great choice to call your home in Knoxville. I live in a 4 bed/4 bath and pay for parking. I have yet to have a bad experience that was not rectified as soon as it was called to attention. The maintenance folks are awesome and dedicated to making sure your things are fixed as fast as they can. The office works hard to make your living environment as comfortable as it can be while in school. You do have to pay for parking, but you are always guaranteed your spot anytime. The noise can be intrusives, but if you choose to live in the fort then you choose to live with college town noise regardless of where you go. All in all, I believe that this is a great place to live and I look forward to next next few years of residence at the Commons!

I moved into the commons because my best friend lived there. We really enjoyed the commons for the two years we were there. They were close to campus, our neighbors became our best friends because of the joined balcony, there was air/heat that worked great, it was furnished, it came with a washer and dryer, if anything needed fixed the maintenance men were there within a day, the dishwasher worked just fine as well as the fridge and stove, and the bedroom doors locked. I had the back room and had a separate hallway with my bathroom and sink area, which I loved because it gave my best friend and I room for our bathroom things. They did allow us to paint the living room, there was a fee but they told us ahead of time. When going over our lease they went through everything with us and had us initial, so we knew what fees/fines we would/could have to pay. We opted out of the parking and found street parking or even little gravel lots. One negative thing was that there were no elevators, it did help with getting fit, but when carrying groceries or getting injured, it does cause some frustration. But I am happy I lived with at The Commons and would do it again as an undergrad. Some of my best memories were made at the commons with my roommates and neighbors. I also would like to add that I loved that the gym was 24'7 available to all residents and the tanning bed was free. Jessica in the office was always there when I needed to talk to her about anything going on with our apartment, and has been willing to help me with finding my old leases even after I moved.

I am really enjoying living here! I have a four bedroom with random roommates and they did a great job at matching roommates. The apartment is spacious and clean and in a very convenient area that makes my commute to campus very easy. Maintenance is very fast which is a big plus! The office staff is so sweet and helpful.
