Many annual events take place in Jackson. CelticFest Mississippi and Festival Latino happen every September, and the Mississippi State Fair and OUToberfest happen every October. In March, there is Mal’s St. Patty’s Day Parade, and in April, the Crossroads Film Festival. Every four years, an International Ballet Competition is held in Jackson. Jubilee!JAM used to be a two-day live music and arts festival that happened each June, but 2009 was its last year. Special exhibits are often held at the Mississippi Museum of Art, as well as the Museum of Natural Science. The first Jackson Rhythm & Blues festival is scheduled for Fall 2013, where Grammy winner Buddy Guy, as well as numerous other musicians, will perform. About 174,000 people live in Jackson, about 79% of which are Black, and 18% are White. Nearly a third of those under the age of 18 in Jackson live below the poverty line. For every 100 women, there are 81 men. At Belhaven University (formerly College), around 53% of the student body is female, and 47% male. 53% of students are Black, 38% are White, and 5% are Hispanic. About 99% of its 3,000 students attend full-time.
