It's amazing that I have to pay a pet rent for my dog every month but all the mice in my apartment get to live here for free!
The management did attempt to address the problem twice. First, they gave 2 days notice to empty every closet and cabinet and move every piece of furniture from the walls by Monday or we would be heavily fined. Good thing we didn't go away that weekend so we would see the notice! We still found baby mice squealing for their lives in the traps they set in our 1-year-old daughter's closet, indicating that the mice were not merely surviving but in fact thriving enough to continue reproducing.
About two weeks later there was a second attempt to address the problem. After painstakingly rearranging our apartment a second time, some gentlemen helped themselves into our apartment while my wife was showering, again setting mousetraps in places easily accessible to our toddler.
The mice of course outsmarted the exterminators and their mouse traps again. When we brought it up with management they told us that they will no longer be assisting us and we are personally and financially responsible for exterminating the mice ourselves. When it comes to enforcing their own policies (i.e., no smoking inside the building or stairwell, no using illegal drugs, keep your dog on a leash), the management here completely phones it in. They do not care. This is their pattern of behavior: when there's a problem beyond simple maintenance repairs (i.e., rodent infestation, insufficient parking for tenants, vandalism in parking lot, upstairs neighbor lets dog urinate on balcony and onto your furniture underneath), they make it your personal problem to deal with, including any and all expenses. Perhaps the worst crime in their minds is to make any extra expense on our behalf. It amazes me that a group of people who are responsible for offering us some level of support can be so thoroughly lacking in any integrity or moral fiber.
